Evangelical Heresy
January 26th, 2006 | by Paul Merda |A full 68% of White Evangelical Christians still support the Iraq War. In fact, 83% supported the invasion in April of 2003. How is it that a group of people who suppossedly worship the “Prince of Peace” were so anxious to go and kill? Christian “Just War Theory” states that war should be the LAST RESORT, but yet, here they are (For the record, the Catholic Church has opposed the Iraq invasion from the start). I remember when Jesus pulled himself off of the cross and smited all of the Romans and Jews for crucifying him and when Jesus said we should stone all of those sinners that aren’t Godly (picture toungue in cheek). Didn’t Jesus say we should love our enemies and forgive those who trespass against us? Didn’t Jesus say to turn the other cheek, didn’t Jesus say we should remove the log in our eye before we worry about the mote in our brothers? Maybe I got that whole Gospel message mixed up, but I really have to think that Jesus was a pacifist….. Okay, Okay, he did overturn the money changers table at the Temple, but I don’t recall him killing anyone….

Its becuase they are Evangelical the dumbest organized religion on the planet. They want ID in schools, think they cause MSFT stock to drop by purchaseing and selling 2 shares a piece. They believe Terri Schivao’s brain was functioning, etc.

Well you need to look at the numbers a bit more carefully. When we went to war, the majority of the country (including myself) supported the war because of the intelligence we were made privy to. A nuclear Iraq was a scarey thought (though not nearly as terrifying as a nuclear Iran). While the 68% percent is still obscenely high, it is a decline of 15%. I’d be willing to bet that somewhat mirrors the national average.
We should continue to work with people of all stripes to broaden the coallition that want to see this war brought to a sensible, swfit conclusion.

What the XIANS want to do is build a religious state just like fundies in some Arab nations. I must say Paul I never supported the invasion of Iraq, kudos to the RC church. A local weapons inspector one Scott Ridder stated there were no WMD’s present in Iraq. He was blasted by the administration and his internet use monitored, he was accused and later exonerated of seeking sex with minors via the net. The administration and the religious zealots who support this tyrant want a fundamentalist XIAN state, they are no different that the Arab fundies. LV

This gets right to the heart of the trouble with the evangelical movement, the modern revival. It was a creation of the Me Generation (”personal relationship with God”). There’s no grounded historical theology or philosophy. No insitutional understanding of a set of believes, core or broadbased. No scholarly background or study. Nothing. It is religion of convenience, made up along the way to fill whatever holes it’s followers need filled. Because of this, modern Born Agains are suseptable to cults and to quite non-Christian preaching because they really don’t understand the religion they claim to observe.
Besides, Americans are generally anti-intellectual morons. They couldn’t comprehend real religion.
