Abstinence-Only Sex-Ed and Teens
February 24th, 2006 | by Paul Merda |Hooray! Teens themselves are becoming active in promoting comprehensive Sex-Ed throughout the country. Two major Teen groups have been working to get Teens the best information regarding Sex-Ed; one is Advocates for Youth, a national organization that has started a campaign called Keep it Real and the other is an international organization called Fix the Gap. The Keep it Real campaign is focusing on getting more Senate support for a bill called the Responsible Education About Life (REAL) Act introduced in February of 2005 by Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) aka S.368, which is “a bill to provide assistance to reduce teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, and other sexually transmitted diseases and to support healthy adolescent development.” The same bill was introduced into the House as well by Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA) who “reintroduced HR 2553 in the 109th Congress under the REAL name, following her introduction of the Family Life Education Act in the 107th Congress and reintroduction in the 108th”. Go here to sign the petition and offer some assistance to the Keep it REAL campaign….
