Orwellian? You Decide
March 30th, 2006 | by Paul Merda |David Corn over at Tompaine.com (great site, BTW) is having trouble these days; while he thinks the term “Orwellian” is overused, the doublespeak coming from Dear Leader and his Admin. can only be referred to as such. Take the “Terrorist Surveillance Program” for instance. That’s what Dear Leader and his minions are referring to the illegal wiretapping scheme they are engaged in. This term is effective partly because the Press is now asking questions using this phrase and at the same time Dear Leader can say, “I did notice that nobody from the Democrat Party has actually stood up and called for getting rid of the terrorist surveillance program.” When phrased in this way, how could ANY politician be capable of defending themselves by calling for an end to it? But that’s not really the issue, is it? Nobody wants to give the Islamo-fascists a free rein, but we progressive types also want it done within the law. By changing the definitions of what words mean or what programs are being used, they can change the whole debate and in their favor. The American People need to wake up, we are being manipulated and not for our own good.
