Bring It On!

Happy Tax Independence Day!!

April 26th, 2006 | by steve |

April 26th in the state of California is Tax Independence. This year it is celebrated 3 days later than it was in 2005. So what the hell am I talking about?

The average Californian spends 32.7% of their income on taxes. This is every tax, from property, to sales tax, state, local and federal tax. When I say average, I mean everyone, rich or poor. Today is the day the average guy is done paying his taxes. 32.7% of the year is today. And it’s coming later and later every year.

Of course the liberals in this country state don’t think so. The rich make too much money. The poor pays too much in tax and does not get enough entitlements. Yet year after year, this day comes later and later. It’s almost two weeks passed April 15th now! Freaking amazing.

California is 41st on the list of tax friendly states . Yippeee!!

3 days later this year. Where are those large taxes breaks for the rich to bring that average down eh? All that money those rich people are supposedly getting. I mean, we do have large per capita income right? Not happening I guess. Holy crap though, look at this list of rich state red states….

Amazing who pays the taxes and who doesn’t in this country. Damn those Republicans…

    Steve what’s your point?

You pay a lot in taxes living in California? Well that happens when lots of peopel llive in an area. Move to a Red State. That way you can get state welfare as all of us bleu state people transfer money to your state to subsidise you.

32.7% of your income is gone to taxes today, Cranky.  When is your state’s independence day?  Last week?  A month ago.  This is all taxes including gas tax, property tax and sales tax.

Hey my state is #2 on the list and taxes are going up again.

Not sure what you are complaining about steve, someone has to pay for the largest federal goverment in history created by the party of small government.

Not to mention the incredible tax breaks they have handed out and the out of control deficit. I remember the days when we were debt free. Too bad they didn’t last long enough to feel the effects.

Steve, what the hell are you complaining about? I don’t get tax independence until the 10th. Of June! And you know what, that’s fine by me as I get health care and 5 weeks holiday in that.

Yeah but I get health care and 4 weeks vacation in a couple of days.  Seems I am about 6 weeks up on you.

Yeah but dude, I am paying for the largest STATE government in history.  That one doesn’t smell like the GOP’s fault now does it!

My complaint is this day is coming later.  There are supposed to be all these tax cuts but the day is coming later for the average person.

Steve I think you need to talk the record profit posting oil companies that just got a nice hefty tax break.

Don’t you realize that our government has turned into one big money laundering operation. Short of putting a gun to our heads and going to jail they figure out “legal” ways to take our money and hand it to their friends.

    Steve,

Sorry for being a little snarky about the health care thing. Having a bad day.

It’s just usually people who complain about high taxes also complain that there aren’t enough police, education isn’t doing the job, roads aren’t being maintained, etc. I agree low taxes are better than high taxes in and of themselves, but sometimes high taxes are needed to provide high levels of services. I tend to regard them as a necessary evil, like going to the gym. I don’t want to, but I know I need to to keep things working the way I want to.

If taxes come down, what do you want the government to do less of? Police? Road repairs? Agricultural assistance? Pensions? What services gets cut to pay for the tax cut?

Just spend the money properly then will talk…  Over 50% of our taxes go to education and schools are falling apart.  They spend the money to make the California Teachers Association “bureaucracy” happy but our schools still rank low.  For all of the money collected you think they could spend it better.  For example, if my wife wanted to paint her class room, and she bought the paint, the brushes and got some parents to volunteer and help, the CTA and the Janitor’s union would throw a shit fit.  The principal would have to file the proper papers to paint the room and the janitors might paint it two years later, at $300 an hour.  It would also take most of the summer for that job as well.  Why should I pay for that shit?  There is no responsibility in the California Legislature.  I often wonder why you guys pick on the GOP in Congress so much when you have an economic powerhouse like California that can’t seem to get it’s act together and spend it’s money wisely.  It’s your people, it’s your party running the damn state.

Oil companies made $8 billion selling crude and only $679 million off of gasoline to us.  Figure out that one before you start talking about tax breaks.

Hey, not my people. I’m just sticking my nose into your business because it’s fun to see the reaction.

On that sort of subject, I agree with you. If there’s no good reason to hire someone expensive to do it, I’m all in favour of just getting the damn thing done. For things like electrics or building work, I’d  probably get a professional in but painting the walls is something even I could manage. Getting parents involved might actually get them to contribute to the school, too. Forms would still need to be filled in, though, or you risk the mighty wrath of the gods of insurance.

Bureaucracy always expands to fill the money allowed. You can trim it back, and trim it back, but as soon as you take your eye off it, it will creep back again. And this time it will steal your shoes for your impertinence.

Just this morning on KFBK 1530AM this morning, there was a commercial from Barbara Kerr of the CTA asking the “politicians in Sacramento” to give her money for schools for college prep classes because “1 in 8 go to college”.  WTF does that mean?

Funny how it was Schwarzenegger’s battle cry in 2003 to stop the “politicians in Sacramento from having a stranglehold on California”.  Then it was Barbara Kerr blaming Schwarzenegger for “borrowing her money” but now it’s the “Politicians”.
