What’s That You’re Listening To?

July 28th, 2006 | by Ken Grandlund |

It’s either a bold marketing gimmick or a case of fighting fire with fire, but a Fresno, California radio station has made a daring format change, shocking listeners of once Christian radio station KFYE with the all new, Porn Radio format.

Billed as the first of its kind in the country, the former sermon and gospel music station has done a 180 degree turn, leaving listeners alternatively up in arms or tuned in in the bedroom.

“The new format, promoted as “all sex radio, all the time,” features only songs with lustful lyrics.

The station’s titillating playlist runs from “Why Don’t We Do It in the Road” by The Beatles, to “Sexual Healing” by Marvin Gaye, to “Strokin’” by Clarence Carter, to “I’m Too Sexy” by Right Said Fred and “Nasty” by Janet Jackson — a bewildering, genre-bending array of tunes sewn together by one bare thread: sex.

Even when the sexual suggestions in a tune may be a little vague, such as in Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight,” the songs are often accented with recorded moans and groans of a woman who appears to be in throes of ecstasy.”

I guess Christian radio just isn’t a money making format after all. This move will surely have the right wing republican religious rabble in a state of confusion. When choosing between corporate profit and using public airwaves to preach the Christian message, which should take precedence?

I want to see an all cannibal format!

    Songs like:

Eat Me Alive and Love Bites - Judas Priest

One Eyed Purple People Eater - Sheb Wooley

Dog Eat Dog - That idiot, Ted Nugent (canine cannibalism should count too)

    LMAO at the Cannibal format.

And regarding KFYE and the new format…. good for them.  I would like to see the format with all the genres and all the years… not just one form of genre, but keep it romantic.

The city council of Kingsburg does not respresent the views of all of the 10,000 citizens in this city.  If someone does not want to listen to it, change the dial or turn it off… it’s that simple!

    Keep it fun!

    Keep it playful!

    Keep it sensual!

    Keep it in Kingsburg!

and keep our Freedom of speech & the arts!!!
