Scarborough Roasts the GOP at WaPo!
September 18th, 2006 | by Paul Merda |Things keep going from bad to worse for the incumbent majority. No one is supporting the Congress any longer and why is that Joe?:
Even when the administration would not give generals the troops they needed to win the war in Iraq, Republican leaders did nothing. When the president refused to veto a single spending bill while the deficit spiraled upward, Republican leaders looked away. And when chaos was reigning in the streets of New Orleans and across the Gulf Coast in Katrina’s horrific aftermath, Republican leaders remained mute. That silence — proof that it is better to be feared than loved in politics — has had devastating results. The United States is more divided than ever, our leaders are despised around the world, our fiscal situation is catastrophic and congressional approval ratings are the lowest ever. Since nothing sharpens the mind like a political hanging, Republican leaders in the Senate and House are finally considering doing what effete newspaper editorialists have suggested for years: throwing Bush overboard.
It’s what I’ve been sayin’ for years; Dear Leader is NOT a Conservative and the constant enabling of his policies by a lock-step Congress, pretty much makes them NOT Conservative as well… Why did you vote GOP? Have ya had enough?

Amazingly enough it seems as though people across the board are starting to get the idea, the idea that the GOP has bungled just about everything they touched for the past five years…

If Scarborough said that, then I say “Better late than never.” Rush Limbaugh can’t be far behind. Ha!
Methinks Scarborough’s idealism is being tempered with a dose of reality. He is realizing that the beloved GOP he desires does not, in fact, exist. And, the proof is in what has transpired during the Bush years. Complete and utter mismanagement of the nation’s finances; and an embrace of Wilsonian foreign policy.
The U.S. Congress has few leaders (either Dem or Pub). It’s time to clean house and give us honest leaders who tell it like it is - and let us decide whether we want them or not. Down with the spin. Up with the truth.
But, I’m not holding out too much hope. As long as Americans are too stupid and/or lazy to research the issues and the candidates, they will be easily manipulated by spin, talking-points and fear. Rove’s tactics would not work in America where people took their civic responsibility seriously; and cared enough to stay informed.
You can blame the corporate MSM all you want, but that’s a smokescreen since news readership has been in decline for years. The blame is on laziness and the abundance of distractions available to a populace eager for pleasure and gratification. After all, where’s the fun in staying informed and having to make tough, informed choices?

LF,
I think you are exactly on the mark. But at least some of the talking heads are starting to see the reality for what it is and actually report on it. That way at least some of the semi-informed will be better able to make an informed decision come November… We’ll see, I guess.
