There’s no political impetus to put more troops on the ground in Iraq - and more troops on the ground is probably the ONLY way to squeeze some kind of victory out of this debacle.
But look at it this way - IF the war was just and right and necessary, the political impetus WOULD be there, the people would be okay with a draft or there would be far more recruits.
But, since the war was a stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid mistake, the people, and therefore the politicians, will not commit any more than they already have. You reap what you sow.
So let me see if I’m hearing you right: would it be a fair restatement of your position to say that you think the war is stupid? :^)
Well, I’m saying what I believe should be done and what, in my opinion, needs to be done, what I’ve been saying for quite a long time. I can’t, unfortunately, seem to make the President listen to reason.
Yeah, but even if you did send in more troops, there’s a good chance you’d just get further into the mire. It’s probably too late for all that now. That should have been done in the beginning, not now. We have to face the fact that we have already failed in Iraq is success was to be measured by a unified, democratic, single state. It’s probably time to seriously consider partitioning the country or putting a strong man in charge.

We were far better off with Saddam.
