Shameless self promotion

The Baltimore Group is excited to announce a long-awaited addition to our team over at Emboldened. Antonino D’Ambrosio started posting yesterday. His primary area of expertise is political popular culture, though he will be contributing in other areas as well.

Antonino D’Ambrosio, a writer, filmmaker, photographer and musician based in New York, is the author, most recently, of the critically acclaimed Let Fury Have the Hour: The Punk Rock Politics of Joe Strummer – now in its fourth printing. Chuck D of Public Enemy describes D’Ambrosio as “the voice of a new generation whose work educates and inspires.” His writing appears in The Nation, Monthly Review, The Progressive, among many other publications. A frequent guest on TV and radio, D’Ambrosio has hosted a radio show on WBAI and East Village Radio. He has lectured at universities all throughout the country.

In 2006 Sony Pictures optioned the feature film rights of D’Ambrosio’s Let Fury Have the Hour. Award-winning actor and director Tim Robbins is producing a documentary based on the book and has invited D’Ambrosio to direct the project. He has produced more than 17 documentaries, short films, features, videos, and PSAs. His most recent film is In the Land of Bolivar, which, was filmed entirely at the World Social Forum in Caracas, Venezuela. His upcoming books are Politics in the Drums: A People’s History of Political Popular Culture from 1960 to the Present and A Gang of Their Own: 25 Years of Mayhem, Madness, and Movies.

Finally, D’Ambrosio is the founder of La Lutta New Media Collective, a non-profit media production group, which The Nation magazine selected as one of the top 50 independent media groups in the country and the New York Times describes D’Ambrosio’s as “bold courageous…creating true democracy.” D’Ambrosio serves as special production consultant for organizations including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Nation Institute, among others. In 2006, D’Ambrosio formed Counterpoint Pictures with writer/director John Buffalo Mailer, journalist/producer Matthew Pascarella, and video artist Dave Ambrose. Counterpoint Pictures is member of Emergency Arts, a collective sustainable art space housed in New York City. In 2005. D’Ambrosio was Artist-In-Residence at Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus.
