“No Thanks” Giving

November 23rd, 2006 | by Jersey McJones |

Thanksgiving is wonderful concept. You need not be of any particluar religion, or philosophy, or persuasion, to appreciate the notion of being thankful for what you’re lucky to have.

The Pilgrims were lucky the British didn’t kill them all after what they did in Britain, and they were certainly very lucky to have landed in a place where the natives didn’t kill them all for what they had in mind for them, and they were very much more than lucky to have survived all this time to have finally conquered an entire continent in God’s name, albeit in vain.

But the funny (read: sad) thing is that they are not thankful at all. They don’t want to pay taxes. They don’t appreciate the government of the people that they ostensibly created. They don’t want to fight in the wars they engage in. They don’t want to take care of the people that their system fails. They don’t want to take care of the place they were lucky enough to land upon…

I’m Thankful. I have a wonderful family. I have a beautiful wife. I have a great life. Yet even I must apologize for not appreciating all this enough.

I wonder, you conservatives, you nativists, you endless warrers, are you really thankful, or do you just say you are? When you assume that God blesses America, do you truly believe that America deserves God’s blessing? Or do you just assume that He does?

You are not Thankful. You are spoiled brats.

For the rest of us - Happy Thanksgiving. For you cheap, sleazy, faux Christian warriors of selfishness: Fuck You.

I’ve always said America got the religous nuts from England and Australia got the convicts.  Who got the better deal?

We, the British, did. Of course now we get the religious nuts being more powerful and the bloody Aussies beat us at every sport bar one, so I could be wrong.
