Politics by Other Means
December 18th, 2006 | by Craig R. Harmon |That’s Hamas’ new slogan. The “other means” include something that looks very much like civil war, although on limited scale, and kidnapping former political opposition leaders. In this case, the victim has been released unharmed — a warning to Fatah leader, Mahmoud Abbas, of the disastrous results of proceeding with calling for the new elections, perhaps, or the work of some overzealous “politicians” who were later persuaded to rethink their platform.
I guess it’s true that elections don’t always translate into democracy, especially when the elected party’s primary political agenda is the wiping out of a neighboring nation.
I guess Hamas doesn’t like it’s chances in a new election given the financial crunch they’ve plunged the Palestinian state into by refusing to even consider living in peaceful co-existence with Israel so Hamas has, as I said, chosen “other means” to stay in power.

Hamas, not wanting to keep with the democratic process so they don’t have to worry about losing power? Who knew?
Oh, yeah. Everybody.
