Into the New Year- 2007
December 31st, 2006 | by Ken Grandlund |It is here. The end of another year.
As 2006 comes to a close, we can look back and reflect on the nightmare it has been or we can look ahead to the awakening we can only hope 2007 will bring.
I must admit that I have no great parting words of wisdom for the year 2006. Although I have the honor of posting the final ‘Feature Post’ of the year, I have little new to offer in the way of progressive thought or political criticism today.
I suppose I could rehash recent news or search out some obscure or inane story or occurrence. But I have not. Instead I choose to leave 2006 behind me with a few simple words and a rather simple request.
First, the words:
“As long as people believe in absurdities, they will continue to commit atrocities.”
-Voltaire
Voltaire wasn’t far off the mark with that one. We see the validity of its meaning every day in the wars and violences men play upon each other. We see it in the unbridled hubris of political midgets who pretend to be leaders, and in the cult icons the masses pretend to admire. And to varying degrees, as fallable human beings, we each envelop absurdity or acquiesce to atrocity time and again by simply failing to stand up and proclaim them as such that they are. Or by rationalizing them away. Or by simply missing the events altogether.
Now, the request:
In this new year, and even in the ones beyond, seek peace, search for truth, reject the absurd, and be excellent to each other. It is within each of us to make the world a better place.
See you in 2007.

Happy New Years everyone. It’s been a heck of a ride in 2007 and 2008 is gearing up to be even better. Which considering we took back Congress, landed Tom DeLay in trouble and saw Dick Cheney shoot a man, seems like a tall order.

Well said Ken. Happy New Year to everyone here at BIO. Although we tend to disagree on many points, it’s healthy to remember to keep an open mind.
It’s hard to show emotion properly in written word so I would like to express the fact that all of you have made me think and in some respect change my views on certain topics and I consider that the best gift I received all year. Thank you.

This sounds too complicated. Sometimes whose who seek peace are the same people who get mega atomic wedgies. I look for the truth, but sometimes this requires research. It is much more easy to just pull a Bill O’Reilly and make stuff up. The absurd is often good for a laugh or two. And be excellent to that jerk wad in accounting who stole my idea and presented it to the boss as his own AFTER stealing the chocolate bar from my lunch?
Can I just seek beer instead?
Happy New Year everyone.

Sorry Steve O, I intentionally post titles to force Google Ads to put up things like “Democrats Suck”, “Stop Hillary”, etc.
I laugh my ass off when it happens! It goes to show my shear brilliance that is often overlooked.

Happy New Year everyone…

Happy New Year BIO. USA is Much better now that GWB can not rule without a spinless Do-Nothing Republican Congress of Whores. My New Years Wish is to see GWB on trial for Treason.

2006 was awesome! Stocks were WAY up. Unemployment was virtually non-existent. Housing is still going up in many parts of the country.
The only problems I saw were illegal aliens, muslims, and other assorted creepy people.
We WILL win in Iraq. It WILL take time.
God Bless America.

if you are so brilliant steve, why don’t you do what steve o asks and get a emmet sucks ad up there? now that would take skill.
truth, i am sadly afraid that you will be disappointed in the new congress. because they are still a bunch of spineless, spinnning, do nothing whores. it is the nature of our political system and it runs like that because of people like sandy, who haven’t got two brain cells to rub together to create a thought.
if our congress had a spine, and if it did as the people who elected it requested, the funding for the war in iraq would come to an end. all they need is the money it will take to get our troops home, and to take care of them when they get here. nothing else. and congress has the power to make that happen, despite whatever crap dribbles out of the mouth of the preznit. but, that would require them to take a position, to be real leaders and to listen to the people who elected them, not the special interest groups and military industrial moneymakers that line their pockets. thus… it is unlikely that without a great deal of unrest here that this will come to pass.
to those of you who want to help make this happen…. beg borrow and liberate whatever funds you need, and be in dc on jan 27 when we take to the streets again.

tamarra, stay tuned. Let’s see who will be correct but the agenda laid out by the New Congress should (will) be a big step forward.
By sandyb on Jan 1, 2007 | Reply
What new agenda? Give the illegal aliens a raise? I’m sure THAT stupid idea will happen. And try to impeach Bush. What another idiotic idea!

sandyb, joining the Dufass status I see. CEO gets 40 million bonus, minimum wages get nothing. Dufass does as Dufass think. CEO spends 10th of raise, minimum earnings spent all of their raises.

Who cares how much minimum wage earners get? I don’t. They’re mostly illegal aliens anyway. So sending MORE money to Mexico is a good idea? Moronic idea… Most poor people are bad stewards of money. Poverty is a choice. There is NO reason to be poor in America. Even illegal aliens are making headway. Some get $25/hr cash for cleaning houses and landscaping. I feel sorry for no one.
