And you think politics in the US is contentious…

When some Republican Representative throws his shoe at Nancy Pelosi you’ll know we’ve really hit bottom.

Nah, we hit bottom when the democrat delivered an envelope of dog feces to a Republican. That was class…

Well, that’s a Liberal professor…what can you expect. When Senators start flinging dog feces at one another, we’ll have hit bottom.

I do like the lawyers insistence that the Constitution protects the right of every American to give their Congressperson dog shit, though. Gotta love that Constitution. Next thing you know, some lawyer will find that it protects the right of anti-abortion people to firebomb abortion clinics as being nothing more than free speech and the common right of every American. I mean, to hell with civility. What’s really important is that everyone be allowed to register their discontent in whatever symbolic language they choose. I mean, if you can set fire to an American flag, why not an abortion clinic. Both are making a statement, no?

By the way, just to be clear, I am for protecting flag-burning and against abortion clinic-bombing. Just making a point here. Does the Constitution really protect any action that can be construed as political “speech”? Obviously not. Where does one draw the line? Should this professor be invited into polite society again or shunned? My guess, she’s been feted for her courage by her fellow professors.

    Craig,

If it doesn’t harm soemone else or destroy someone else’s property, I think it’s protected. Going over either of those and it becomes assault or vandalism.

    It harms civility.

It’s also juvenile, like putting a bag of feces on someone’s door-step, lit on fire, and then ringing the door-bell. It’s childish and stupid. This is a professor. Is this person insane or just never grown up?
