Iran is asking for their “consulate” people back…

January 19th, 2007 | by steve |

See Link.

You know what I say, fuck them! They held our people for 440 days back in 1979-1980. Despite what people think about the war, I say Iran should explain who these people are to us. They should explain what they were doing in Iraq. If there are ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard then WTF are they doing there? If they are their to disrupt the peace process, putting our troops in harms way, then Iran should explain themselves.

Simple logic, right?

    Well - not exactly.

    1. We are not Iran. We are supposed to be a nation of law. Invading a consulate and taking prisoners / hostages is a clear violation of international law.

    2. what is any diplomatic mission doing in Iraq? During the time when Hussein was gassing Kurds, Iran was allowing people to flee across the border where they would be safer. So is it any wonder why the Kurds do not exactly hate Iran? Many of them are alive today because Iran protected them.

    3. Being the good guy is ALWAYS a disadvantage. We have to play by the rules. If we start to go breaking rules just because we do not like them, the whole system of international law can break down.

Just like I can not just decide that speed limits are stupid, and therefore I can drive as fast as I want. Or decide that pot laws are retarded, and just decide to ignore them. I mean I CAN decide to ignore US law, but it will not keep my ass out of jail when I get busted.

I agree with the fuck the Iranians point of view you have here. It is clear THEY pick and choose times when they want to respect international law. However, the United States Of America is NOT Iran. We should not start to play games with the law. We should respect and uphold it. If we don’t - who will?
