Halliburton To ‘Cut & Run’

March 12th, 2007 | by Ken Grandlund |

Halliburton, the company that runs the U.S. Government these days is helping turn Iraq into a shining democracy, has decided to relocate their corporate headquarters from Houston, Texas to Dubai.

According to company spokeshole Cathy Mann, “The chairman, president and CEO will office from and be based in Dubai to run the company from the UAE.”

Talk about a cut and run! Why would an American multi-national corporation with ties to the White House and a seemingly unlimited source of no-bid contracts want to pack up and reestablish their corporate headquarters in the Middle East?

Could it be because:

(a) Halliburton is tired of paying taxes on all those profits they’ve been making supporting the troops.

(b) The Energy Department of Dubai needs help crafting a new energy policy for their country.

(c) Texas and Dubai have similar climates, but Dubai doesn’t have that pesky Mercenary Union to worry about.

(d) Bush already staked out Paraguay, so Cheney picked Dubai as his new post-administration home. And where Cheney goes…

(e) Halliburton sees the writing on the crumbling wall of fraud that they have helped build around the Bush Administration and is trying to high tail it out of town just in front of the posse.

Or is it because, as CEO Lesar says, he’ll be better able to oversee Halliburton’s intensified focus on business in the Mideast and energy-hungry Asia, home to some of the world’s most important oil and gas markets.

Oh that may be part of it I suppose, but really…I like (e).

Man, “cut and run” is right.  I wonder how all the “Patriots” will spin this.  I’ll go with a) and c) through e).

I’m wondering the same thing, Tom.  So far all I hear is the sound of silence…

    Waxman to the rescue Gents

The planned move surprised longtime critic Rep. Henry A. Waxman, D-Calif., chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. He called for congressional hearings on the move, saying, “I want to understand the ramifications for U.S. taxpayers and national security.”

My take on this is that it’s highly likely that they will be hevilly off shore all it’s proffits and Dubai is as good a place as any to shelter the war-time windfall….but I posted just a short bit ago - that might it not been better to relocate to Baghdad?  That would be sure sign of support for the troops, no?

BTW, if Dubai is not a good location feom which to run our US port operations, then why would a US company move it’s HQ, full of very top secret no bid contract information to that same location?

    e) is probably the one. I can hardly beleive it but would it be impossible to investigate Haliburton in Dubai? That would be just wrong wrong wrong. I was really hoping that they eventually would be investigated after us getting out of Iraq. Wouldn’t some evidence of their theiving be evident in the procurement process?
