BREAKING: New Alleged Terror Plot Thwarted- Again Without Destroying A Foreign Country

June 2nd, 2007 | by Ken Grandlund |

Todays announcement that law enforcement thwarted an alleged terror plot that sought to destroy Kennedy International Airport in New York, as well as a major jet fuel arterial running under the city proves again that the best defense against terrorists isn’t by invading and decimating a sovereign country, but through vigorous law enforcement.

The plot, said to have been still in the planning stages, was being tracked by law enforcement for almost a year and coordinated efforts between the US and the island nation Trinidad and the country of Guyana. Reports say that if carried out to completion, the attack could have been deadlier than even 9-11, killing thousands and destroying large parts of New York City. And while I’m pretty sure that the US military could have blown both of those countries back into the stone age, instead, calmer and more rational heads chose the law enforcement route.

Todays report shows clearly that law enforcement, including cooperation with intelligence agencies and other countries, is more effective in breaking up terror cells than going to war. We saw this with the “Fort Dix Six” and “The Sears Tower Seven.” (Whether or not these alleged plots were actual terror plots may be debatable. What is not debatable is the fact that they were each disrupted without the use of airplanes, bombs, tanks, and the like.) Yet all the military in Iraq can’t seem to find and stop the onslaught of terror cells that daily kill our soldiers.

Perhaps it’s because when we have to “fight them over here” we can actually coordinate our efforts and have the resources to track them down, without the daily distractions of having to stay alive. In Iraq, we’re breeding them too fast to keep up.

Okay…good, I found it. I read so many magazines travelling last week Ken, I remembered this article after reading your story:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18881803/site/newsweek/

Seems that in some areas we have found a way to stop terrorists in their tracks–IN IRAQ. I wonder why this story is buried even though MSNBC and NEWSWEEK know about it? So… this actually proves the locals are willing to help identify and stop al-Qaeda in Iraq. Too bad we can’t get more of this.

All your story really says is, “Hey, there are terrorists over here, why are we over there?”

    Ken says:

“Todays report shows clearly that law enforcement, including cooperation with intelligence agencies and other countries, is more effective in breaking up terror cells than going to war.”

Wonder how much information was obtained with warrantless wire taps, data mining or illegal search of financial records?

Then there is this from the article:

“”It’s like you can kill the man twice,” said Defreitas, 63, who first hatched his plan more than a decade ago when he worked as a cargo handler for a service company, according to the indictment.

Authorities said the men were motivated by hatred toward the U.S., Israel and the West. Defreitas was recorded saying he “wanted to do something to get those bastards.”"

Hatched the plan more than a decade ago? When Bill was pres? How can this be? Bill was the Pres when everybody loved the USA. And they wanted to bomb the JFK airport for added effect. I don’t get it. How could anyone hate JFK? Why do these terrorist hate the Democrats icons? Why not bomb the George Herbert Walker Bush International airport in Houston? Notice how he also hates the Israelis? This probably has something to do with Cheney’s plot to make the Iranians piss off the Israelis enough to bomb Iran to make Haliburton rich.

They got ‘em, manapp, what are you complaining about? (Oh, and by the way, we didn’t have to go to war to get ‘em.)

    As manapp99 astutely observed:

We also didn’t have the Patriot Act before 9/11 either.
