Senator Proposes Free College Tuition Program

August 21st, 2007 | by admin |

Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) has a plan to help the United States regain its competitive edge in the fields of science, engineering, math, and technology. He is planning to introduce legislation that would give full scholarships to high school grads who will major in those areas. In return, students would work or teach for at least four years in their field of study.

If you ask me, this is a fantastic idea. It would increase the number of students learning the very skills that America used to lead the world in but no longer does. And our country is falling behind in these areas just at a time when we need an infusion of new blood. As our infrastructure ages and collapses…as our manufacturing industries continue to evaporate overseas…as our space program and innovative medicine programs all suffer from a lack of qualified personnel…promoting science and math careers through free education may be the ticket.
