Congressman Points Out Elephant In Room, Links Poor Economy To Iraq War. Oh Really???
April 14th, 2008 | by Ken Grandlund |Seems that the tin foil covering the capitol building is finally starting to thin out. Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth linked the poor economy to the Iraq War, stating that the growing cost to the United States of fighting the war in Iraq “is not only linked to our economic skid, but is a leading cause of it.”
Gee, ya think? You mean those initial projected war costs were just a bit off? Like hundreds of billions of dollars off? I thought we had Harvard educated MBA’s running this show…I mean, WTF?!?
Of course the vacuum that is Iraq is a leading cause of our sagging economy. Of course, those upper-bracket tax cuts, the offshore flow of jobs (and tax receipts), and a concerted effort to deregulate market restraints that sent so many spiraling into the “ownership society” without the manual didn’t exactly help the economy much either. But hey, it hurts to open your eyes all the way in the noon-day sun when you’ve had them so firmly closed for such a long time. Just seeing the biggest elephant in the room could be construed as progress.
So kudos to you Congressman John Yarmuth.

Funny, economists seem to think the housing slump caused by risky lending practices by banks to unqualified applicants is the cause of the economic trouble. Loans that were encouraged by Democrat legislation urging home loans to less qualified candidates by the way. Not to mention skyrocketing food prices, caused for the most part by subsidies for food growers to make “biofuels”. Something Democrats have been screaming for forever and finally managed to get.
Of course unbelievably ignorant Democrat voters will believe that our economic troubles are caused by the war the same way the economic buffoons think tax cuts, or letting people actually keep their own money, could EVER be responsible for economic retraction.
Please do yourself a favor, and get an economic education before you embarrass yourself again.

Yes, kudos to John Yarmuth. Somebody had to finally spell out the obvious. There couldn’t possibly NOT be a connection between our sagging economy (and crumbling infrastructure) and 5 years of Iraqmire.
Last month I went out and spent tens of thousands of dollars (that I don’t have) on a bunch of fancy shiny consumer items. And now my credit rating has gone down and I’m getting all these dunning letters from banks and credit card companies. Hmmm…this couldn’t be connected to my big shopping spree last month, could it?

Perhaps if they raised taxes to pay for iraq we would be in less trouble than we are now. But if course if the neocons had to actually pay for their war it wouldn’t have happened.
