Lincoln - Douglas Debates?
April 27th, 2008 | by Cranky Liberal |Does anyone else see the ironic symmetry in Hillary Clinton challenging Barack Obama to a Lincoln-Douglas style debate? Douglas of course used race mongering to frighten white folks into voting for him and not Lincoln, while Clinton used race mongering to frighten white folks into voting for her and not Obama.
Of course no one celebrates Douglas on Presidents Day so here’s hoping history repeats itself.
(PS - I know the debates were for the Senate, and Douglas won, but Lincoln beat him in the Presidential bid so shush)

“ironic symmetry”?? Race mongering?? Frankly in view of the recent ABC debate a Lincoln-Douglas debate format might be a good idea. A few years ago PBS, I believe, had a reenactment of those debates and i found them quite interesting. I support anything that gets the MSM out of the equation.
Ethnicity and and religion are out there and there ain’t anything anyone can do about it. we just ain’t there yet. Blacks are supporting obama by large margins and white women are supporting hillary. In Penn. he got 90 percent of the black vote and she got 65 percent of the white vote. Doesn’t surprise me. What disappoints me is that we are being manipulated into blaming the race thing on the Clinton’s. Thats why a linclon-douglas debate might be a good idea. Put them both on the stage and let them go at it for several hours. Your suggestion that Hillary would race monger such a situation is absurd. Such a debate would probably be boring, because there is not really that much they disagree on except at the margins. At this time i lean to obama, but i wish we could stop the race mongering among democratic supporters. we will get enough of that in the general election and obama is going to need the support of all democrats and independents, because he is going to win the nomination.

The more we say this is race mongering, the more it has become.
If Obama is the nominee it is going to difficult to say anything against him without someone calling it racism. You know because his far left liberal views aren’t even a factor, the only factor will be that he is brown first and foremost.

I see no symmetry.
It was almost 150 years ago and the 2nd Greatest President of all time (next to Reagan) was in the debates.
Neither Obama or Clinton are going to be the second greatest President. They are Democrats.
Third, no Tim Russert.
Fourth, no Limbaugh sound bytes.
Fifth, slavery was still going on in America. It isn’t now. We choose to get our goods from China where slavery is still going on.
Sixth, No Bring It On… And no place to scribe my dissent.
Seventh, woman had their place back then… /ducking
