I actually fear for Obama. If, just if he did manage to win it all, or get really close, there are plenty of people like these KKK guys out there that will be gunning for him. I just hope the secret service is up to the task. This guy will have a mark on him bigger than Lincoln’s.

I do too Jersey. Some wingnut will want his fifteen minutes of fame for killing him.

Funny the media never brings this up, huh? Ya’ know Dusty, if it happens, all the morons will act surprised like they were when Katrina hit (”But, duuuuh, I didn’t know there were so many poor black people in New Orleans!”). This whole post-racism myth from the Right sickens me. One’d have to be either a liar or a shut-in to claim to not know the strength and virulence of racism in America today.

Well, if some yahoo actually killed him, I would fear a race war here..unless of course Bush cancelled the election and instituted a police state…for our own good of course ;)

Well, Lord knows Al Qaeda may be planning an October surprise. The last thing they want is a Democrat who was always against the war in the White House.

Al Queda, that idiot Al-Sadr…they are all planning something to change the status quo here by keeping the War on Terrah and the Iraq War on the front page.

    Exactly.

If Obama is assassinated, and I dearly hope he is not, it may not be the KKK that does it. It may be radical, militant Islamists. Apparently, all it takes to be considered a Muslim is to be born of a father who was Muslim. All it takes to be considered an apostate from Islam is to convert away from Islam as an adult. This makes Obama an apostate, according to the author, and subject to execution by any Muslim, anywhere in the world.

Drat! That wasn’t the link I intended to embed. This is the New York Times column I meant to point to.

    Whatever Craig.

As for the KKK endorsement of McCain, that’s as significant as the endorsement of Obama by Hamas.

Unlike Ron Paul, who refused to repudiate any nut case that sidled up to him, McCain needs to make it clear in no uncertain terms that his presidency will give no aid or comfort to racist bigots, that his policies will not coincide with those of the KKK and that he will make the DOJ’s mission in life to prosecute any and all crimes committed by KKK members. If he doesn’t, he’s a fool.

I see. Threats to Obama from KKK = remarkable, bad, must be pointed out; threats to Obama from radical Islamists = whatever. Hmmmm! I’d venture to say there are a lot more radical Islamists in the world than there are KKK members.

    But, um, whatever.

  14. By Dusty on May 14, 2008 | Reply

Well your man McCain is sure getting mileage out of the Hamas bullshit Craig. He keeps bringing it up.

So that means this endorsement by the KKK is fair game for the Democrats.

Remember, this is a man that actively sought the blessings of two wingnut Theocrats just for starters. Anything is possible with Johnny McCain.

And the author of that OpEd you linked to…rightwing think tank alum.

    Dusty,

To quote myself: “As for the KKK endorsement of McCain, that’s as significant as the endorsement of Obama by Hamas”, so I guess I agree with you, no? Yes!

Also, although I missed it, apparently McCain rejected Hagee’s anti-Catholic rantings and even Hagee has rejected his own anti-Catholic rantings.

It is really sad that there are still Christians spewing such nonsense but my own opinions regarding gays and gay rights have undergone almost a complete turn-around, too, from my earlier thinking so I guess people do change and grow.

This link you erroneously put up:

One…The wingnuts are saying Obama lied about being a Muslim. Wrong. His father had already renounced Islam before he met Obama’s mother.

Two…Your OpEd by a rightwinger that is waxing poetic about the laws of Islam? Give me a break..talk about conspiracy theories. You rightwingers really like to stretch the truth and skew the logic.

  18. By Craig R. Harmon on May 14, 2008 | Reply

Forgot the links: McCain admits accepting Hagee’s endorsement was a mistake and Hagee apologizes for anti-Catholic spew.

Maybe purely political posturing rather than honestly felt changes in position on both men’s part but, well, there it is for what it’s worth.

  19. By Dusty on May 14, 2008 | Reply

OH…so its OK for Weathervane to reject Hagee’s bs but not for Obama to do the same? Right….love that logic too.

Hagee retracted his bs only after extreme pressure was brought down on his ass by Rethuglicans. Gee..isn’t that interesting.

Its not change..its pandering by Hagee and McCain to the Catholic part of the base.

That and five bucks will get you a latte from Starbucks Craig.

Weathervane McCain on numerous occasions was happy as a proverbial clam to accept Wingnuts Hagee and Ron Parsley’s endorsements, the most recent earlier this month.

Have a good day Craig, I am done with this thread.

    Dusty,

Obama’s father’s rejection of Islam is not relevant. Culturally, anyone born to a Muslim father is considered a Muslim, regarless of their stated stance on the Islamic faith. Therefore, Obama’s father’s rejection of Islam is irrelevant. Obama’s father was born to a Muslim father, making him a Muslim. Obama, being born to one considered a Muslim, his atheism at the time being irrelevant to the culture of Islam, was born a Muslim, his own lack of Islamic faith being irrelevant to the culture of Islam. What IS relevant, if the author of this article is correct (and I don’t know that he is), is that Islam considers Obama to have been born a Muslim. When, as an adult, he converted to Christianity, he became an apostate.

As to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a peek at the various members and past members doesn’t make it appear to be particularly right wing, to me. It appears to have had both right and left wing members…or is Madeline Albright a closet member of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, now? Hmmm?

Besides, even if you’re right, that doesn’t even begin to rebut the truth of the Op-Ed. It’s just a typical left-wing dodge to anything that might cut against the accepted dogma.

As to the first link, the erroneous one, I agree that Obama didn’t lie about this. It is clear to me that Obama meant that he was never a Muslim in the sense that he never assented to the Islamic faith, practiced the Islamic faith or submitted himself to Allah! But that’s not what the New York Times Op-Ed is talking about.

You may be done with it but I’ll respond to your last comments. No. I haven’t said it’s okay for McCain to have accepted Hagee’s endorsement or that saying it was a mistake to have done so makes it okay. In my opinion, this puts McCain in precisely the same position vis-a-vis Hagee as Obama is in vis-a-vis Wright…except it didn’t take McCain 20 years of listening to Hagee, and supporting him with his donations to come to that conclusion.

So I guess Obama’s rejection (only after 20 long years of listening to his sermons and only after extreme political pressure was placed upon Obama to distance himself from Wright) was pandering too, in your opinion? Okay. As long as there are no double standards here.

I think that brings us up to date.

    Have a great day!

The difference is that Wright is usually right and Hagee is always a slobbola. Yes, Obama is pandering - to stupid, scumbag, sleazy racists. It’s ashame he has to.

Obama should only worry about assassination if he names Hillary Clinton as his running mate! Hill and Bill will do anything to get back into the White House!
