Is it true about Obama?
May 27th, 2008 | by Steve O |And last but not least the wing nuts have been going bat shit crazy about a statement Obama made yesterday in a question and answer session after his Memorial Day speech in which he mentioned that his uncle’s unit was one of the first American’s to enter Auschwitz. Here’s the video (around 5:15);
Now, a brain dead CBS reporter completely fucks up by misquoting Obama as saying that his uncle “helped to liberate Auschwitz.” But if you listen very carefully to what he actually said, the word liberate never came out of his mouth. NEVER!!!!
My only question to this fucktard of a reporter is, how on Earth were you able to quote him exactly on what he said about his Uncle living in an attic but missed the FACT that he never said liberate, you fucking tool?
You can’t, because he NEVER said it, so how about an apology for false reporting and I’d like to see your resignation on my desk in the morning.

Why has Obama felt it necessary to “correct” his statement - do make right his previously mistake about the facts?

Turns out that it was his great uncle and there were no Americans present in the Auschwitz liberation or any other operation in Auschwitz. It was the Russians. He just lied to fit the tenor of the day and was caught. Just like Hil’s embellishment on her Bosnia trip. What do you expect. He is just a politician like all the rest.

Well, he’s admitted that it was a great uncle and he named the wrong camp. I’m willing to give him a pass. I’d never heard of the camp that he says his great uncle did enter with Patton’s army and I’ve seen pictures from there. Actually seeing it in person would have probably put me in the attic for a while, too. Without actual proof that his amended story is false (like, say, strong evidence that his great uncle was a file clerk who never saw combat in the European theater, let alone fought in Patton’s army), I’m willing to give him a pass on this one and say he misremembered a story he’d been told in childhood.

Craig,
Misremembered is a lot different than a mis-spoke (i.e. lie). I’m not arguin with you , just clarifying.
I know he corrected his statement but I was more pissed that this reporter actually put words in Obama’s mouth. How dare she, how careless, ho irresponsible!!!
That’s all. I would give him a pass to, it’s a non issue but the wing nuts are holding this up like the WMD lie.

Yeh, crappy reporting, for sure. No doubt about that.

Do you do the math problem before you write comment or after?

So his uncle (great-uncle if you’re going to be picky, in my family we all called our great-uncles “Uncle so-and-so” without the “great” part) helped liberate a Nazi death camp, but Obama said Auschwitz when he should have said Buchenwald. Uhm, okay. And Hillary was under sniper fire… when? Oh right, she just made that up out of thin air, it’s not that she mistook Bosnia for Somalia or something, she just made it up. Obama didn’t make up his uncle or his uncle seeing a Nazi death camp, just pulled the wrong death camp off the top of his head. Yeah, they’re just like each other, huh?

Steve O,
I think I’m going to have to backtrack on my last comment and disagree with you. Here’s why:
The reporter never pretended to be quoting Obama. He was characterizing Obama’s words. Reporters do this all the time. As long as the reporter doesn’t put quote marks around his (the reporter’s) characterization and his (the reporter’s) characterization is an accurate reflection of the words that he (the reporter) is reporting on, there is nothing at all objectionable in this.
Although Obama didn’t say “liberate”, as long as we now know that it was not Auschwitz but Ohrdruf that Obama meant to say, the reporter correctly characterized Obama since Obama’s great uncle WAS among those who liberated Ohrdruf. Ohrdruf was liberated by Patton’s army. Obama’s great uncle was IN Patton’s army and among the first (I have no reason to doubt) to enter Ohrdruf.
Therefore, I conclude that the reporter’s characterization was accurate and unobjectionable. It was only ever a problem as long as we supposed that Obama actually meant what he had said, that his uncle had been among the first to enter Auschwitz. In other words, it was always and only Obama who was wrong, since it was the Russians, not the Americans that liberated and first entered Auschwitz.
I think you owe the reporter an apology.

Steve,
Either way. I usually try to do it first because, otherwise, I tend to hit ‘Submit Comment’ without ever DOING the math problem and then I have to go back and redo it all. As long as you DO the math problem before hitting ‘Submit’, you’re fine.

IT’S SUPERSHAM !!!!!
Due to incredible demand, I have aquired a quantity of Obama’s bathwater. Just a few drops added to your favorite beverage will give you the knowledge and power to transform yourself into a world class statesman. The unique chemistry is so powerful, anything you say will go unchallenged and turn your audience into eager lemmings determined to help you carry out your every demand!
Just something I came across.

But, Lisa, the media is challenging him. He’s had to repeatedly, for example, explain, re-explain and finally ditch Rev. Wright. It wasn’t because bloggers were unconvinced but because msm challenged him repeatedly on it. It was msm outlets raising the “cling to guns and religion” issue that forced Obama to twist in the wind. It was the msm challenging him on Auschwitz that forced him to respond and clarify.
Now, I am totally sold on the concept that it was the new media, including the blogosphere, that forced the msm to take note of these and other things but it was the msm that forced Obama to twist.
In short, Obama’s bathwater possesses no such powers. The real magic is in the internets and talk-radio that brought real competition into the realm of information processing and dispersal and it has done so so powerfully that the msm has had to adapt to it, adopt its own versions of it and respond in ways that have effectively challenged Obama’s quasi-messianic image.

The only Media that is challenging him Craig is right wing blogs and news outlets.Just like the left has repeatedly done to Bush and now McCain. So we’d all better just get used to it because it’s really hasn’t even begun yet.The rest are just reporting it. I see no challenge in that CBS report. All I see is it is getting reported not challenged.
And when he is getting challenged he has a huge defense team .

Just want to mention that the math problems have cut down on spam remarkably. Considering that we were nearly killed by a wordpress spam vulnerability, that’s a great thing. Helping y’all add while inebriated…priceless.

Jet,
I’m glad to hear it about the spam. Any word on when we can expect the other BIO! fora to return so us non-official types can have a place to post our own blog posts. I like responding to other people’s posts but sometimes what I’d like to say really isn’t sufficiently relevant to any active post here. As a result, I must either go off topic to say what I’d like, try to find a post where what I’d like to say is at least within the same ballpark as the post, if not exactly apropos or just wish the old themed pages were still active so I could post what I’d like.
Okay, I realize I could just go back and make a Blogger blog and post to myself but the BIO! fora had a built in readership. Allowing us non-official BIO! bloggers to join the fora and post our own thoughts also made BIO! less strictly liberal since us non-liberal types were no longer restricted to the comment sections.
Anyway, just wondering.

I don’t think we’ll make any changes between now and November, Craig. We are pretty swamped with campaign work, and the other format is far more hands on to operate.
