Scott Tried to Tell Us…

June 11th, 2008 | by Paul Merda |

…but the Media just maligned him.  Scott Ritter, weapons inspector and fact finder told the Media time and again in the run up to the Iraq Debacle that Saddam had NO WMD.  So how did the media respond, by questioning his integrity and character.  The media perpetuated the fiction that “W” and his team of liars set forth. parrotting everything they said without question, without investigation.  Scott calls them on it, and rightfully so…

Who are we supposed te trust to get to the truth of a matter?  Perhaps the media has never reported the truth in the first place; perhaps it has all been a farce from the day we were guaranteed Freedom of the Press.

The CIA was saying there were WMD and lawmakers from 1998 through 2003 were on record as accepting this information as fact. The really scary part of this is not what lawmakers were saying about the CIA assessment, it was the faulty assessment itself. If the CIA screwed this up so badly how are we to believe the next evidence of threat or lack thereof?

As much as I like to fault the MSM, I don’t see how they were supposed to know more than the CIA on Iraq and WMD.

WMD: a term only a small minded, inattentive republican’t would fall for. neo-conservative fictional hyper-fear at it’s absolute best. only a fool would have bought that argument in 2003 when most gullible american fools bought w’s lies about iraqs threat to american security hook, line, and sinker. in the first gulf war, a conflict a bush somehow managed to NOT fuck up, iraq was launching scud missiles into the air and hoping they wouldn’t land on the people that launched tham. the iraqis would launch a scud and then turn on cnn to see if it came anywhere close to isreal or any other intended target. unfortunately, some scuds came close enough to kill american and other soldiers, but that hardly qualifies as a weapon of mass destruction. i know i’ve typed way to many words for the typical wmd believer to follow and still keep reading, but please bear with me a little longer. the scud was the most technically advanced missile the iraqis had. and it didn’t work. it was a small advance from the v-2 used by the germans in ww2 and this is what that fool w got you fools that fell for it to believe was a wmd. and then w broke out the gas and chemical weapons scare. the use of gas and chemicals ended in ww1 because they were at least as dangerous to the attackers as the defenders. alas, w’s mindless minions fell for it again because they do not read, listen or pay attention. and then comes the big bang. SADDAMS GOT THEM NUKES. duck and cover w told his illiterate idiots. they ducked, covered, and believed every lie this modern day pinnochio fed them. see what fox noise does to the brain. after the gulf war, no fly zones and harsh trade restrictions on all military ordnance and supplies crippled the iraqi government and military to a point that even steve doocy and the girl scouts coulda kicked ass over there. there was no possible way iraq was a threat to america or anyone, anywhere in the world. yet the fox-fed fools fell for it. orgasmicly. oh yeah, the gas saddam used on his own people was delivered to him by none other than cheney and rumsfeld years ago when they convinced him to attack iran. my point is only a mindless, naive, fool who would make gomer pyle look like albert einstein would have fallen for that wmd horseshit. yet most americans did and unfortunately still do. no wonder w got close enough to steal 2 elections and american idol and survivor are considered entertainment here in the good ole usa. most americans (the ones that voted for w……twice anyway) are just too fuckin’ dumb. plain amd simple.

    napp,
cheney rigged the cia alleged intelligence and tenet took the fall for a piece of tin and ribbon from the main instigator w. a republican led house and senate did the rest. haven’t you been paying attention or did you lose your remote control a while back with your tv stuck on fox noise?

    lisa,
bill clinton used no fly zones, economic and military sanctions, and inspections by scott ritter and hans blix to contain an impotent saddam hussien without the loss of one american life, all the while creating a most robust american economy. this of course is the exact opposite of how the fool w handled the situation. kinda like when clinton got a blowjob from a woman in the oval office while w’s alleged administration had over 100 visits from that well known male prostitute jeff gannon.

Freedom of the press does not mean that the press always agrees with you. It does not mean it always gets it right. It means they are free to err as well as to report facts accurately without the government shutting them down, forcing them to report the government’s propaganda to the exclusion of alternate views. We have a free press. We also have a press that is owned and operated by fallible human beings with all the biases and blind-spots, self-interests and willingness to deceive that are endemic to the human race.

Mr Big stuff the robust economy was instilled by the republican congress who had to keep pushing through legislation that Clinton kept vetoing.
Clinton also wanted Regime change in Iraq

tuff, try reading the following quotes (I know there is more than one and you might lose focus but try real hard) from 1998 and tell me again how Cheney rigged the CIA intelligence, before he became VP:

“Saddam’s goal … is to achieve the lifting of U.N. sanctions while retaining and enhancing Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction programs. We cannot, we must not and we will not let him succeed.” — Madeline Albright, 1998

“(Saddam) will rebuild his arsenal of weapons of mass destruction and some day, some way, I am certain he will use that arsenal again, as he has 10 times since 1983″ — National Security Adviser Sandy Berger, Feb 18, 1998

“The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow.” — Bill Clinton in 1998

“Iraq is not the only nation in the world to possess weapons of mass destruction, but it is the only nation with a leader who has used them against his own people.” — Tom Daschle in 1998

“As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I am keenly aware that the proliferation of chemical and biological weapons is an issue of grave importance to all nations. Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.” — Nancy Pelosi, December 16, 1998

And from Scott Ritter, in 1998:

“Even today, Iraq is not nearly disarmed. Based on highly credible intelligence, UNSCOM [the U.N. weapons inspectors] suspects that Iraq still has biological agents like anthrax, botulinum toxin, and clostridium perfringens in sufficient quantity to fill several dozen bombs and ballistic missile warheads, as well as the means to continue manufacturing these deadly agents. Iraq probably retains several tons of the highly toxic VX substance, as well as sarin nerve gas and mustard gas. This agent is stored in artillery shells, bombs, and ballistic missile warheads. And Iraq retains significant dual-use industrial infrastructure that can be used to rapidly reconstitute large-scale chemical weapons production.” — Ex-Un Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter in 1998

If you would quit letting Keith Olbermann telling you what to think, you might learn something about the truth.

    napp,
i’m fixing to go see the judge to change my name to tuff. but i’m gonna spell it tough. not one of the quotes you mentioned said anything about propagandizing this minimal threat to the point of an ill-advised, horribly mismanaged invasion of iraq the reuslt of which would destroy the american economy and drive up gas prices. and most importantly none of these people felt an invasion to enforce sanctions was worth 4400+ american military deaths while creating a terrorist hotbed in an iraq we MUST one day leave. the quotes you posted were all in an attempt to keep the republican’t chicken hawks from crippling the u.s. military with an ill advised invasion. the people you quoted knew that sanctions and embargo would cripple any destructive intentions iraq may have and end saddams regime. peacefully. w the fool of course fucked that all up, crippled the american economy, drove gas prices through the roof, wasted billions of dollars and thousands of american lives, without accomplishing what the sanctions DID accomplish. that is the point ritter and blix were making. the sanctions were working. but the chickenhawks in the republican’t party and the fools at fox would rather have the consequences i just mentioned. thanx morons, now please step aside while the few intelligent americans left clean up your mess. the only thing that the fool w proved by invading iraq is that w is indeed more fucked up than saddam hussien.

  12. By manapp99 on Jun 11, 2008 | Reply

Tuff, the quotes above illustrate that you were incorrect in your assessment that W and Cheney cooked the books intel wise. The original post was about Ritters being “correct” about no WMD however his 98 quote shows different.

As far as Democrats advocating war, this came later:

“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members, though there is apparently no evidence of his involvement in the terrible events of September 11, 2001. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too well affects American security.” — Hillary Clinton, October 10, 2002

“Saddam Hussein’s regime represents a grave threat to America and our allies, including our vital ally, Israel. For more than two decades, Saddam Hussein has sought weapons of mass destruction through every available means. We know that he has chemical and biological weapons. He has already used them against his neighbors and his own people, and is trying to build more. We know that he is doing everything he can to build nuclear weapons, and we know that each day he gets closer to achieving that goal.” — John Edwards, Oct 10, 2002

“The debate over Iraq is not about politics. It is about national security. It should be clear that our national security requires Congress to send a clear message to Iraq and the world: America is united in its determination to eliminate forever the threat of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction.” — John Edwards, Oct 10, 2002
“I share the administration’s goals in dealing with Iraq and its weapons of mass destruction.” — Dick Gephardt in September of 2002

“Iraq does pose a serious threat to the stability of the Persian Gulf and we should organize an international coalition to eliminate his access to weapons of mass destruction. Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to completely deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.” — Al Gore, 2002

“There is no doubt that Saddam Hussein’s regime is a serious danger, that he is a tyrant, and that his pursuit of lethal weapons of mass destruction cannot be tolerated. He must be disarmed.” — Ted Kennedy, Sept 27, 2002

“(W)e need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime. We all know the litany of his offenses. He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. …And now he is miscalculating Americas response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction. That is why the world, through the United Nations Security Council, has spoken with one voice, demanding that Iraq disclose its weapons programs and disarm. So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real, but it is not new. It has been with us since the end of the Persian Gulf War.” — John Kerry, Jan 23, 2003

“We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandates of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them.” — Carl Levin, Sept 19, 2002

“Every day Saddam remains in power with chemical weapons, biological weapons, and the development of nuclear weapons is a day of danger for the United States.” — Joe Lieberman, August, 2002

“Whether one agrees or disagrees with the Administrations policy towards Iraq, I dont think there can be any question about Saddams conduct. He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do. He lies and cheats; he snubs the mandate and authority of international weapons inspectors; and he games the system to keep buying time against enforcement of the just and legitimate demands of the United Nations, the Security Council, the United States and our allies. Those are simply the facts.” — Henry Waxman, Oct 10, 2002

Simply the facts, as Henry Waxman says.

As far as sanctions go, they were responsible for millions of Iraqi deaths. Continuing the sanctions was an option only if you turn a blind eye to the unintended consequences. Google sanctions+Iraq and read.

    heres an example:

    http://www.thenation.com/doc/20011203/cortright

“The humanitarian disaster resulting from sanctions against Iraq has been frequently cited as a factor that motivated the September 11 terrorist attacks. Osama bin Laden himself mentioned the Iraq sanctions in a recent tirade against the United States. Critics of US policy in Iraq claim that sanctions have killed more than a million people, many of them children. Saddam Hussein puts the death toll at one and a half million. The actual numbers are lower than that, although still horrifying.”

  14. By manapp99 on Jun 11, 2008 | Reply

This one is informative as well:

    http://www.american.edu/TED/iraqsanc.htm

    “After
invading Kuwait, sanctions were placed on Iraq; in 1996, sanctions
on Iraq are still in place. In the meantime, sanctions have caused
Iraq’s poor to suffer immeasurably and Iraq’s ecology to suffer
deleteriously. Furthermore, sanctions have not forced Saddam
Hussein to change his sanctioned actions: He continues to drain
the southern marshes, conducts chemical warfare on Iraqis,
continues to threaten the safety of Kurds and Shiites, and
continues to threaten the territorial autonomy of his neighbors.
Rather than loosening his control over Iraq, sanctions have
accomplished just the opposite, that is, Saddam Hussein’s grip on
power has actually tightened. (In fact, Saddam Hussein may be more
powerful today than he was prior to the sanctions.) In the case of
Iraq, sanctions have seemed to fail miserably. It is within the
discourse of this case study that the reasons for the failure of
    those sanctions will be examined.”

    napp,
your research skills are second only to w’s fabrication skills. however, bottom line is the invasion of iraq was the worst mistake in american foriegn policy history. the aftershocks have destroyed our once robust economy and made americans suffer to a degree unknown since the great depression. the outcome of w’s foolishness will lead to the greater depression. hopefully w’s actions will also lead to the destruction of the republican’t party so that america will not be led into the greatest depression one day in the future by the party who calls themselves business friemdly but in reality the republican’ts are the greatest destoyers of business this country has ever known. each quote you post shows how the world contained saddam peacefully. the sanctions worked. there never was a legitimate reason to invade iraq. most americans have figured that out……..finally. that is the main reason w has a poorer than piss approval rating and other than here in tennessee a republican’t cannot win any race anywhere. he and they fucked it all up by refusing to stay a time tested course. the world hates w for his actions. iraqis hate w. 75+% of amerca hates w. each and every one of your quotes ackowledges a minimal threat saddam posed. but the threat was handled by sanctions and embargos and the waste of american lives was not in any way shape or form worth the debacle w has created. we are not the worlds policeman. the arab world should have handled saddams internal problems in iraq, but evidently they didn’t see the need especially when they noticed their little harem slut w would do the the dirty work for them and they could walk away scott free and blame any concurrent problems on america. america got punked out by the saudis who have bought and sold the bush klan over and over again. if you feel so strongly about big bad america ramming democracy and w’s demented form of law and order down the iraqis throats, you should join up. you can be there in 8 short weeks. short of that kbr and halliburton are hiring. you can be there tomorrow. you efforts would be so much more self rewarding and financially rewarding than gathering 10 year old quotes that were actually meant to maintain a world wide peaceful effort to constrain saddam and keep the incompetent republican’t chicken hawks from starting a war they are way to dumb to finish. remember the only wars ever won by a republican’t preznit were against the seccessionist ex-american slave holders and the spanish in another questionable cause war to sieze cuba and the phillipines. both of which we no longer control. again, please step aside so the few intelligent americans left can clean up your mess.

You guys have to understand - Cons (regular everyday cons who really stood nothing to gain from supproting this stupid war in the first place) have to sleep at night like the rest of us. They can’t face the reality that their stupidity lead us into a quagmire in the Middle East that has killed and maimed tens of thousands of people. They can’t face that. They will lie, rationalize, restate postions, objectify, etc. Anything but face that they were wrong and that they’re wrongness lead to the ruin of tens of thousands of people.

We should feel sorry for people like Manapp, Lisa, Steve, Craig, etc. It’s not their fault they were fool enough to fall for this stuipid shit at the get-go.

Hey Jersey I never said I supported going there. Unlike many democrats who suupported it and because it didn’t go well now say the opposite. Same as they handle every issue. If isn’t going to make them look like a Rock Star they want no part of it or they pretend they want no part of it.
You relly think Obama is the one who can turn this country around? You need more than speeches to do that. Besides that you guys will never be happy so it really doesn’t really matter who’s leading.

    napp and steve,
i was talking to my buddy lester last night at the hardshine tavern and he told me there were in fact wmd’s in iraq. i’ll let him tell the story:

this is lester over here in wartburg, tennessee. hell we’d all vote for w again if them damn democrats’d give us half a chance. i hear some of you’ns been doubtin’ my good friends napp and steves stories about them wmd’s over there in i rak. hell, w told us they was there so it’s gotta be true. said so on fox too by god. hell, anyway i’s over there bout a year and half ago. i lost my job and insurance when w sent the factory contracts over to india. so i took to driving trucks for halliburton so i could feed my poor ole family. i’s driving my empty truck through the desert one day leaking gas all over the place when i seen a bunch al kader trucks comin’ the other way loaded down with them wmd’s they’s deliverin’ to syria. one of them al kaders had stopped for a smoke break so i axed him “where y’all goin’ with all them wmd’s?” he said sumpin like “abba labba labba haka shaka allah akbar asha laka laikem” translated that means we’re taking half of saddams wmds to syria, iran got the rest of ‘em. i said hell by god and skeedaddled back to the green zone to tell blackwater all about it. blackwater said they was too busy raping little iraqi girls and boys to do anything about it and told me to go tell cheney. he was visiting the green zone that day. bout the time i pulled that truck into the parking lot, i seen cheney comin down the steps from his plane and down there at the bottom of the steps was bin laden kickin sand over top a one them ieds to disguise it. i hollered out to cheney “wartch out for that ied and that damn bin laden too!” hell if i didn’t see bill clinton fuckin one of them stewardesses right behind cheney on the stairsteps. bout that time blackwater took off runnin’ to catch bin laden. but clinton hollered out “you blackwater boys better leave my friend bin laden alone. he ain’t done nothin’”
that skerred bin laden so he took off runnin’ across the desert and got away. you know hell, it’s all clintons fault anyway. so cheney was staggerin’ down them steps bout half drunk and i’s afraid he’s gonna get hisself blowed up. you could hear that ied a tickin’. i think the good lord smiled on cheney that day cause right about that time he tripped and fell and spilt his liquor drink all over that ied and defused it with all that wild turkey 101. it didn’t blow up. but hell he dropped his shotgun and it went off and killed two of them blackwater boys. they blamed it on al kader and set off to kill some more iraqi women and children for it. cheney picked hisself up off the ground and commenced to makin’ a speech bout how hard we was workin on findin’ them wmds and he sure did appreciate it. then he remembered his drink was empty and said “hell boys i gotta go, my drinks empty”, got back on that plane with clinton who by that time was fuckin’ cheneys daughter and her lesbian girlfriend both. i think cheney was happy about it hopin’ that clinton might turn ole mary cheney back to straight. as i wartched that plane fly back to the homeland i got to thinkin’ we sure are lucky we got w and cheney in charge of things. we never woulda found them wmds without ‘em. anyway, turns out napp and steve both was right about them wmds and i’m happy about it cause me, steve, and napp are cut from the same cloth. we think alike. just like w and cheney. this is lester, i’ll holler at you’ns later.
