Quote of the Day 6/13/08

June 13th, 2008 | by Paul Merda |

Liberal, of course, is a four-letter word. Liberals want to tell you what you can and can’t do, like they know what’s best. Which is why conservatives buy into planned communities with meddlesome homeowner’s associations. They’ll pay serious money for the privilege of having the right kind of people tell them what they can and can’t do. – Tom Sullivan

    I like my quote better:

We’ve lost the battle on what the Second Amendment means,” campaign president Paul Helmke told ABC News. “Seventy-five percent of the public thinks it’s an individual right. Why are we arguing a theory anymore? We are concerned about what we can do practically.”

Although, to the question of why they are arguing theory still, you have to understand that such a right exists before you can argue about what you can and cannot do. And, of course, clarifying the public’s view of what sort of right the second amendment secures also helps clarify what sort of restrictions can be reasonably expected to be passed by the political process.

As for conservatives and liberals, everyone wants to tell people what they can and cannot do. Liberals of a certain leaning tell people they cannot own handguns or keep a functioning rifle in their homes for self-protection; conservatives of a certain leaning want to tell homosexuals they can’t marry the partner of their choice. It’s hardly an issue that is restricted to either liberals or conservatives.

I hear ya Craig… I imagine that it isn;t just conservatives buying into these properties with the meddlesome rules either.

I guess that’s where I am at, I don;t want anyone telling me what to do just like I really don’t want to tell anyone what to do either. I am of that “live and let live” camp which is why I have had so much trouble with the GIP over the past 8 years… Talk about meddling in people’s lives. Sure once the dems get in, they will do the same thing just on other issues. Have I mentioned how much I hate the whole PC movement, and I fear it is going to get worse the second after the fall elections :-(
