The Messiah and His Disciples

There are few things the Bush administration has done well except keep “the bubble” intact. No news in, no news out, give the Big Guy plenty of quasi-plausible deniability. It wasn’t until well into his second term that leaks appeared, but when you run that many scams it’s inevitable that something eventually leaks through.
The McCainiacs have pinned the Messiah label on the O-Man. Rightly or wrongly it’s easy to see, but I don’t believe St. B has anything to apologize for. Acting imperial and passing imperial legislation are two different things. I reckon that only means Barack has one less face than Dub, who carried off being a hayseed and imperial at the same time.
But bubbles always pop and Obama’s been lucky this has been an election of form over function. That’s why recent talk about his campaign’s insularity is troubling. If he’s elected, that insularity will surely travel along like a cockroach hiding in bananas from the tropics. According to the WaPo, the campaign is too “Chicago-centric” and too dependent on the gang from back in the day. There are reportedly turf fights developing and the adhesion the campaign once had is now fraying.
This behavior is exactly what happens when any organization becomes successful, particularly one that was originally an underdog. Because the organization pulled off the “impossible”, they begin to believe they can do anything so they never listen to a contrarian idea. They are convinced of their own invincibility. They have created the Messiah and have become its heartbeat.
It’s time for Obama to listen a little more closely to that heartbeat. He needs to decide if what he hears is healthy. Is looking imperious the same as being imperious? Is playing the race card intentional or unintentional? He needs to become more 3-dimensional than the chin-tilted high face on the posters or the Messiah-moniker will stick like flies to the shit on George’s boots.
He’s shown he can draw crowds, even McCain clumsily points that out. He’s shown he can ignite hope and stimulate voters. He’s shown he can be as wise for a man of his age as John Boy has shown he can be childish and churlish for his. However, the knock on him is his lack of experience. He needs to show he has the ability to lead.
And, there’s no better place to start than leading his own campaign.
