This election just got tighter than a Republican page’s anus. Now all the pictures taken with McCain/Palin will look like one of those Purity Balls;

But somehow I’m guessing that Palin is no virgin. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!

I can just see the debates now:

Moderator: Senator Biden, what do you see as Americas role in the Russia/Georgia situation?

    Joe: I think..

Moderator: Thanks Joe, now shut up. Sarah, may I call you Sarah? Please tell us about your competing for the Miss Alaska contest. Spare no details including your measurements. Do you have any pictures you would like to share?

On MSNBC Matthews was heard to say he felt a shiver up both legs in anticipation of her answer. Olbermann just muttered something that sounded like fucking bitch.

Any lady (like my mom) who is in the middle of the road leaning on Obama, maybe… just got a new person to research and love.

Sympathetic character… oldest son fighting in Iraq…. Youngest son has Down’s Syndrome…

Didn’t do the prenatal stuff to “abort” the kid with Down’s.

Whoa… the Dems just got hit with a silver bullet as far as I am concerned. It just got a little closer. McCain is gonna get huge media play off of this one.

Nice. Demeaning an accomlished female is ok when she is of a different political stripe, huh?

You are just upset because McCain swung for the fences and connected and now your rock star candidate is on page 2.

Now that glass ceiling with the 18 million cracks in it can be shattered in a couple of months, but only if you vote for McCain/Palin. What’s a feminist to do?

Kind of like letting Slick Willie off the hook for all his womanizing/sexual harassment because he is on your side.

It will be interesting to see how her primary political theme - clean government, anti-corruption - fits together with the current Republican party’s ethos as the most corrupt thing in American politics since Harding, and with McCain’s having so many lobbyists working in his campaign (never mind the fig leaf of saying they aren’t PAID to work FULL-TIME in his campaign - a mind-boggling number of his key people are registered lobbyists; apparently they’re working less than full-time or not getting paid by his campaign.)

Gotta give credit where due - this is a smarter choice than I thought McCain had in him. The question now will be whether Palin rolls over on the principles on which she won her current office and embrace the party line, or whether she’ll end up being a true maverick.

Here’s a thing: now, no matter who wins, the 232-year streak of both the president and VP being white guys will be broken, either by having a black president or a female VP. That’s something not many would have thought possible even a decade ago.

and she brings 3 whole electoral votes to the j.p.W. songbird mcsame-hensley camp. her oldest son isn’t fighting in iraq. he’s dodging i.e.d.s and snipers in iraq and hoping for the big freedom bird to fly him back home like every other soldier stuck there by w’s folly. which is what this election will all come down to in the end. the fact that the republican’ts fucked up sooooooooooooooo bad for 8 years running, the vast majority of americans do not even trust them to make a beer run. hell they’d take off with the cash, steal the beer from the convenience store, and before finishing the first beer crash the get away car because republican’ts can’t handle their alcohol (i.e. w, glen beck, slush limbaugh, etc.) then lie to police about the whole thing while blaming somebody else for all the trouble. because of that damn fool w, p.w. mcsame-hensley couldn’t win with peyton manning, tom brady, gina gershon and the ghost of lincoln on the ticket.

Smart play by McCain, but a bit cynical too- IMO.

Did he pick her because he really believes she’s able to lead the country (who is she again?), and for her depth of experience (something he plays up a lot but which she has little outside Alaska), OR because she is a woman (his own “historic” ticket)who will woo female voters, has a son in the war (to show that the war is so good a mom approves of it)and is anti-abortion (a good and honorable Christian woman)?

Sure, this may make for a closer race, but don’t think McCain didn’t pick her for that very reason. This isn’t about picking someone who is the best running mate (for the country) any more than Cheney picking himself was. This selection is pure politics-old school style-and a bigger pander to women than anything I’ve seen in a long time.

A couple of further thoughts - one: this may win over some of Clinton’s still-bitter fans, but it is just as likely to alienate an equal number of the far right folks that have been Bush’s voter base - this hardly squares with all that fundamentalist crap about women being subservient, basically barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.
Second thought - this will further energize at least some Democrats who might have gotten complacent if it looked as if it were going to be too easy for Obama to win. So this will inject some energy into the Dem campaign, which already has quite a bit, as well as the Republican campaign.

I find it interesesting that Gov Palin is called inexperienced, when she was elected as Governor 2 years ago and has been running her state since then, while Obama was elected to the Senate 2 years ago and has been running for President since then. Obama has 2 more years than she does in national politics, and he’s at the top of the Dem ticket.

Might not want to lead with anything with the word “experience” in it. All it will do is highlight Obama’s lack of it.

Just admit is was a home run pick and then move on.

    Mr Bigstuff,

Only a lost-his-mind liberal could take a photo of a young woman having a nice moment with her father and opine that she will become a pornstar.

You should be ashamed. Have you no soul?

    Hey Mike,

Ummm, I stated that all future McCain/Palin photos will look like a Purity Ball and then posted picture of such purity ball.

No mention of porn in this post is there? Curious to how you draw the connection? Long nights in a bathroom stall? Many minute son the 900 circuit?

    Seriously, just curious?

This is a pander of the first order. Ultimately, I think this will do more damage to McCain then help. If any part of the story of her trying to get her sister’s ex-husband fired is true then she becomes just another Rethug and a harpy to boot.

She is a creationist whackaloon and is rabidly pro-life. It is one thing to make the personal decision to carry a down syndrome baby to term because you don’t believe in abortion, but have her stand up in front of the country and tell women that she wants to overturn Roe so that all women would be forced to raise a downs child and McCain can flush the woman vote straight down the crapper. Female sympathy for her story will end right then and there.

Her energy policy makes her seem like Cheney with a vagina.

Biden is going to make her look like such a fool in the debates I predict she will leave the stage crying. Once the debates are over she will show the country what real inexperience looks like and make McCain’s narrative look even dumber than it does now.

Silver bullet, my ass. The only way this is a silver bullet for McCain is if he has the gun pointed at his own head.

“Forced to raise a Down Syndrome chid” That is a morbid thought.

“Biden is going to make her look like such a fool in the debates ”

I think the gap is alot closer between Palin and Biden than McCain and Obama.

Actually Mike, the Republicans can never use inexperience again. They can never say Mr. Obama isn’t experienced enough to lead the nation and then expect us to beleive Mrs. Palin is. Mr. Obama’s 2 years of national politics is 2 more than Palin. We’ve had 18 months to see Mr. Obama on the national stage. We’ve had 18 months to vette him and decided that indeed he has the character and capacity to be the President of our great nation. We now have Mrs. Palin thrust on us. We do not know how her “experience” or lack there of compares to Mr. Obama because she is inheriting this spot because the “Maverick” wanted to pick up Hillary voters. As one Hillary supporter on CNN just said - we didn’t want Hillary because she’s a woman, we wanted her because she was Hillary. This feels so bleh.”

Mr. McCain made a cynical and calculated move. Will it work? I doubt it. They don’t even agree on drilling. Good pick JOhn. I think this is a stellar day for Obama, the Democrats and America.

Obama pics someone to help run the nation. McCain pics someone to help win an election. Nuff said.

And thanks for calling me a feminine hygiene product.

    Stay classy dude!!!

And as for Mr. B’s comment, I’d have to bet that the girl in the picture gets VD or Herpes for giving blow jobs or starts to complain that her ass hurts by the time she is 16 because she is saving her virginity for marriage. Go figure!

Still waiting for a so-called feminist to call you out for this post but am hearing crickets.

And you have an odd fascination with bathrooms.

Have you ever seen a grown man naked?

Have you ever watched gladiator movies?

And of course this entire thread is overly sexist, duh. It was meant to be, had to get it out of my system before I start posting stuff that GOP will not accuse me of being sexist.

See, because that is how they will frame the argument, no matter what defects we point out about Mrs. Palin, we will be accused of being sexist. So have at it.

I’m sick and tired of folks running around screaming that Obama has only held National Office for 2 years. For the record, Obama was elected in November 2004 and took office January 2005. That means he’s held a national political office for almost 4 years.

My reactions? I’ve just begun to read about Palin so these are preliminary thoughts:

She’s inexperienced. To date, as best I can figure, she’s been mayor of a town of 9,000 and governor for two years. Given McCain’s comments about Obama’s inexperience, choosing Palin for a position that places her one heart-beat away from the Oval Office seems stupid. By choosing Palin, he’s erased experience as a bone of contention against Obama.

She’s about to be deposed in an Alaska Senate investigation into removing one office holder for, allegedly, refusing to remove her brother-in-law from his position as a state trooper. Whatever the merits or demerits of the allegations, couldn’t McCain find one Republican politician who isn’t under investigation for corruption? Republicans are in political trouble for many reasons but one of them, certainly, is the various investigations into and convictions stemming from charges of corruption. Choosing a v-p running mate who is, herself, under investigation — the Obama ads write themselves! Stupid.

From my reading into the scandal, I’m not yet sure that there’s anything particularly to the charges but, then again, I’m not sure that there’s nothing to them, either. To pick a v-p of whom the headlines read, a day after the pick, “Palin Could Be Deposed in State Probe” — some brain-dead McCain aids should be out of a job.

Now I’m aware of the political upside of choosing a woman as v-p pick at a time when there are a lot of Hillary Clinton supporters out there claiming they won’t vote for Obama: choosing a woman could pick up a fair number of those disaffected Hillary supporters but was Palin really the least under suspicion and most experienced pick for running-mate? Hell. McCain could put me right off voting altogether this cycle.

  36. By Craig R. Harmon on Aug 30, 2008 | Reply

Regarding the brother-in-law, he seems not only to be an abusive husband and father (he once tasered his own son when only 11 or 12 years old) but not the sort of fellow I’d want as a trooper in my state so desire to have him removed doesn’t sound altogether unreasonable and sounds like there could be good reasons that have nothing to do with the fact that Palin’s sister was going through a divorce with the guy but even if it turns out that everything Palin did was entirely proper, choosing Palin was a bad choice, in my opinion.
