GOP: The New American Jingoists
September 3rd, 2008 | by Windspike |Is it me, or does any one else find the use of a Navy Seal’s heroic story to sell us a President and Vice President a reprehensible practice? Of course, the W, Rove and Co perfected this tactic long ago - using slain soldiers as rationale to toss more flag draped bodies onto the C-130’s headed for American soil. The McSame/Palin camp are following the well worn GOP political playbook.
This nasty political practice is not only real dirty, a ruse to spur patriotism among ordinary people, but outright offensive. The piece that makes the use of Michael Monsoor’s story particularly despicable is that Mike Monsoor died in Iraq when he really didn’t have to - Iraq is the war we didn’t need, shouldn’t have entered, and was brought to you by the GOP.
That Michael Monsoor is a hero is not in doubt. Indeed he was. But using his story for political gain? Disgusting. Showing this video at the GOP convention has obvious political aims. In short, it demonstrates how shameless those leading the GOP are. They are using a hero’s story to foist their political agenda. Instead of standing on the shoulders of great men, they are stepping on the boddies of our fallen heros. For that, I say, shame on them.
In the end, the “America or Country First” slogan places jingoism at the fore of the whole Republican modus operandi. But using it to tout their candidates as the best for America is also offensive. This is more of the dualistic practice perfected by the W, Rove and Co. political propaganda machine of the “you’re either with us, or against us” fame (where did that put Switzerland in 2001, btw?).
The implication the GOP convention slogan is that if you are not for McSame and Palin, you are not for America. Don’t fall into that trap people. It’s a simple political parlor trick. Add the slogan to the shameful use of heroes (our war dead and injured, caused by a war we didn’t need) into the political cocktail the GOP are pouring in Minnesota over this week, and you have a lot of drunk republicans: the New American Jingoists, who believe George Bush was Right (despite all evidence to the contrary), and McSame and Palin can do no wrong as long as it’s in the name of “America” or “Country First.”
This political practice (using soldiers for political gain) is shameful and the slogan is divisive set out to polarize our great nation even further. I’m not for McSame or Palin, but I’m definitely for America, but don’t hate me because I disagree with you (but I expect some of you will, which is just QED).
I’ll leave you with this report just for fun…

It is so obvious the media is in the tank with the democrats. That effin party had nothing to do with the hurricane. It was planned deal with it.
It wasn’t the damn convention which was postponed.
I knew they were going to somehow get that shit in there.
And we know if it were the DNC party on the same day we wouldn’t hear crap about it. Absoulutley sickening.

Lisa,
What are you talking about? Did you read the post?
Until you do and have something substantive to say, don’t bother with another comment.

Has anyone asked the good soldier about gays in the military? Since he is still fighting a war that ended in 1975, it’s probably irrelevant to him.
For McCain, it seems, every war is a righteous war, whether it’s an illegal war or one that we started under false pretenses. What’s $10,000,000,000 a month got to do with it? This is a man who believes that one honors dead soldiers by adding more of their contemporaries to the list.
“It’s always the old who lead us to the war, always the young who die…” Phil Ochs
I bought a tee shirt that says:
“John McCain
Is Not
My Drug of Choice”
google it for the site.

WS I was commenting on that last You Tube video as for the rest of the post the dems do whatever they need to spew the same old same old about the rich the poor and the kid born without arms and legs with no health care.
Because everyone had health care until 8 years ago don’t you know.

Lisa,
I know what you were referring to, and even with your clarification, you are just slinging empty rhetoric with no basis to prove your point.
Until you have some kind of credible and cohesive argument to make a point, you won’t sway me. If your main goal is to convince me that I am wrong, you failed miserably.
In fact, your commentary - here on this post and on others as well - is just as good as if you told us what you have for lunch today. It has no bearing on the discussion. Why not just type asdfjkl; for your next comment? At least you wouldn’t insult us by pretending you have a valid point and go straight to the nonsense you have historically tossed our way.
Care to try again? This time, try to address the issues in the post instead of being one of the GOP Crack Pipe Smoking Rovian Soldiers of Propaganda for the Reichwing.

Why bother? Obviously all you can do is what the left always does by playing down what anyone says by insulting them, sayiong it’s empty rhetoric, propoganda, baseless(you know your side of the argument) so unless I get banned from here I have as much right to state my opinions against your insults that you say about republican candidates.Who are you appealing to anyway? You guys all have the same opinions so all you are doing is throwing more of the same to each other.
And trust me democrats have enough propaganda of their own.
Change oh sweet change. Maybe not a crack pipe but more of a psychedelic acid trip.

This entire post just shows how special interest the GOP is. It pisses me off when they speak of patriotism and our heroes in Iraq but then they vote to gut the VA because they are saving our nation money? Bull! That is not being a Conservative Republican but They treat funding of the troops as a joke but if big oil comes a knocking they are all about Ear Marks.
As for the party during Gustav, there was no stopping any lobbyist from rubbing the butter on his bread that night and it looks like the bread was getting pretty well toasted that night.
Great post WindSpike!

larry craig and mark foley must have had a gay ole time at the pink boa ball. every time the two ventured to and from the mens room stall with their pink boas flowing, tom delay and the rest of the republican’t male luminaries looked on, green with envy. these fruitcakes could put a san francisco gay pride parade to shame.

I think MB you meant to refer to Barney Frank and Jim Mcgreevey.
Why do you always leave your tolerance at the front door?

Lisa,
Are you happy that your GOP heroes are using dead and wounded GIs that were caused by their useless war in Iraq as political pawns?
By mr bigstuff on Sep 3, 2008 | Reply
lisa,
frank is upfront about things and doesn’t persecute those sharing similar, you know, fetishes and such. your good friends craig and foley keep it in the closet, or attempt to and persecute those who don’t. that’s the difference. it’s called hypocrisy.

WS-I don’t see it that way. I see it as they are honoring them. You do remember honor don’t you?
MB I love how you defend gay democrats and trash republican ones. Frank and McGreevy were up front because they got caught. Don’t give me that BS.
republicans don’t persecute gay people. But maybe some southern democrats do.Give me an example of that please other than the gay marriage bill because Obama is against it too. But maybe some southern democrats do.
