Palin Controversy Continues…

September 3rd, 2008 | by Papamoka |

I find that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being an Independent registered voter. In my mind it simply means that you can not honestly follow the path of the two main stream political parties in America. Technically, I am a moderate that happens to be stuck in the middle with millions of other swing voters still registered as either a Democrat or a Republican.

Todd Palin, the husband of GOP nominee for Vice President and Governor of Alaska, was registered as an Independent for a few years. Over at Talking Points Memo they have this on it…

Founder Of Group Palin Courted Professed “Hatred For The American Government”; Cursed “Damn Flag”
By Greg Sargent - September 2, 2008, 6:10PM

The founder of the Alaska Independence Party — a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years — once professed his “hatred for the American government” and cursed the American flag as a “damn flag.”

The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that’s now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

“The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government,” Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.

“And I won’t be buried under their damn flag,” Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. “I’ll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home.”

At another point, Volger advocated renouncing allegiance to the United States. In the course of denouncing Federal regulation over land, he said:
“And then you get mad. And you say, the hell with them. And you renounce allegiance, and you pledge your efforts, your effects, your honor, your life to Alaska.”

You can listen to audio of the relevant section of the Volger interview here. Bill Schneider, curator of oral history at the library, verified the authenticity of the interview and the quote to me a few moments ago.

Palin has courted the group over the years. - Talking Points Memo

Can we hear an “Ouch” from the bleacher seats at the GOP Convention? If people were actually sitting in those seats I’m sure we would have. News reports state that approximately 40% of the hall was not occupied. Maybe somebody at the McCain camp forgot to mail the invitations to the GOP Convention? I’m sure there is a very logical explanation.

Back to the Palin controversy, just as Obama went through the gates of hell with Reverend Wright, the Palin’s and the McCain’s are going to have to face this little factoid head on. It should be interesting to see how Governor Palin is going to explain her courting of the Alaska Independence Party to the national media down here in the lower fourty-eight.

And the endless wave of Palin controversy continues…

    I watched several hours of the “Rally for Ron Paul” convention (for entertainment purposes). That arena, during Paul’s speech and other’s, which occurred during the RNC, appeared to be well populated.

    Indeed, one of the attendees was Barry Goldwater Jr. How interesting that “Mr. Conservative’s” son decided to attend a political rally other than the Republican’s.

    alex,
    the neo-conartists of today have no idea of who barry goldwater or dwight eisenhower, the only true republican war hero, were. the only tenets of conservatism they understand are a failed actors constitutional end games and lawless foriegn policies which resulted in failure like every post eisenhower republican’t endeavor.

    So why doesn’t Fox News play that anti-American speech over and over the way they did Wright? I mean Wright saying that meant of course that Obama hates America so this guy saying he hated the American government means Palin hates it too.

    Where is the consistency here?

    Ron Paul is a republican,one who is against the war .
    Like Lieberman is every bit a liberal except he supports the war
    Although these 2 parties are really America’s worst enemies.
    And to fill those seats at the RNC takes money so who really is the rich party and who has the most lobbyists?

    “the neo-conartists of today have no idea of who barry goldwater or dwight eisenhower”

    MB and you have Jimmy Carter(sympathizer) and Bill Clinton(draft dodger and whore)
    And now you have Obama who the Saudi’s are supporting because of his middle name,hahahahahaha!
    I guess they didn’t read the memo that he wants us off foreign oil.

    I’m not sure I get the point. Now that we have documentation that Sarah Palin has been a registered Republican continuously since 1983 and, therefore, was never a member of AIP, now we are reduced to hearing that she courted the group (whatever that might mean) for a while more than a dozen years ago, a group she never joined but whose founder hated the America and the flag and so, obviously, Sarah Palin hates America. Have I got the narrative down right?

    Does no one notice the difference between this and Obama’s 20 year membership at Trinity Church of Christ and close relationship with Rev. Jeremiah “God damn America” Wright? No? Fine. Allow me to spell the differences out:

    Obama joined the Church; Palin did not join AIP;

    Obama remained a member of the Church for 20 years; Palin was never a member of AIP;

    Obama was so smitten with Rev. Wright that he made Wright an advisor to his campaign for president; Palin seems to have had no relationship with the founder of AIP whatsoever;

    Obama only denounced Wright a few months ago, after Wright, unaccountably after a 20 year close relationship between the two, suddenly was found to not be the pastor Obama thought he knew; Palin’s courting (again, whatever the hell that means) of AIP ended, voluntarily on her part, at least a dozen years ago;

    But of course it was never legitimate to mention any of that about Obama and Wright, it was a distraction from the issues, but Palin’s connections to AIP and it’s founders are vitally important issues, the very heart of the matter.

    Why doesn’t Fox News play AIP’s founder’s speech over and over? Because Palin never joined AIP; AIP’s founder didn’t perform the marriage ceremony for her and her husband; AIP’s founder didn’t baptize their children or teach them in sunday school; Sarah didn’t sit in AIP meetings regularly for 20 years being indoctrinated with hate for whites and America; Sarah didn’t make AIP’s founder an advisor on her campaign; Sarah, therefore, was never in a position to have to throw AIP’s founder under her campaign bus when the AIP’s founder’s wacked out rhetoric became publicly known.

    You see, there’s simply no comparison between the two situations: the close, 20 year relationship between Obama and Wright, including as an adviser to the campaign, a relationship that ended but a few months ago when that relationship became an albatross around Obamessiah’s neck on the one hand and the non-existent relationship between Sarah Palin and the AIP’s founder.

    Just speculating here, but that might be the reason. This is the silliest shit I’ve seen in ages. Nonsense!

    Wow Lisa, You almost had one complete sentence but you have no facts to back up your crap. And once again you pointed out that you never even read the friging post! Get a friging life with some backbone and back up.

    If there ever comes a vote by the writers of this site to ban your ass from it, your job approval rating as a commenter is below that of W by more than 90%! Grow up. This is not your venting place, that should be done with a proffesional mental health expert. Stop Bogharting the pipe will ya… Please!

    I never said she joined AIP Craig and you know it. She did in FACT, something you like to avoid, seek the AIP out to endorse her for governor of Alaska.

    Do your own Fox News spin of the facts but the truth is published.

    Now lets all see Craig post one bashing comment after another that is not relevent to the actual article I wrote. Something like how Reverend Wright is responsible for the actions of Sarah Palin’s husband???

    Unbelievable!

    lisa,
    jimmy carter fought worlds (i always wanted to say it that way) war two under the seas in a submarine. john p.W. songbird mcsame-hensley fought the vietnam military industrial complex exercise in front of vietnamese television cameras.

    What I’m really interested in hearing about is Troopergate. This, to me, is the single biggest issue, more important, even, than her lack of experience — although that’s a pretty big issue in my mind, too. Troopergate is the thing that will bring her down if she improperly used her power in office to try to get her brother-in-law kicked off the force and then fired the guy who was in a position to kick the brother-in-law off the force for not doing so. That blows up and McCain will have to dump her from the ticket and if that happens, I’d say that McCain’s finished no matter who he picks to replace Palin.

    On the other hand, if she can appear reasonably competent, especially up against Biden in their debate and can show that troopergate is not what it is being made out to be, she could be an asset. I’m waiting to see how things shake out but I’m not optimistic.

    Um Papa I wrote more than one thing so which thing is it that you need facts for. I will be to research that for you.
    Unless you didn’t know that Lieberman is a Liberal or Ron Paul is a republican.

    As for the other comment it was in reply to MB’s comment not the original post.

    MB I do like your analysis of who fought what war and how. So any war fought during your life is a military industrial exercize?
    Yep it really looked like McCain was having a blast in the Hanoi Hilton.

    So when did military heroism end, after WWII?

    And big shit for Carter my father fought in 2 wars an was enlisted during Viet Nam as was most of my family. That’s what most people did back in the day until the 60’s anti war movement came about.

    Papamoka,

    Actually I was responding to admin’s comments above, not to your post. I should have made that clear by addressing my comment to admin. I apologize for the mix up on that.

    As to your post, I actually find it quite fine. I have no problem with it. Doesn’t mean I agree with every word but that’s rarely going to happen.

    So then, I know that you have not said that she joined the group. I did not intend my comment to sound like I was implying that but given that I failed to address my comments specifically to admin, I can see how you could read my comment to imply as much. On the other hand, there have been plenty of people, even in the media, who HAVE said that.

    And I have no problem admitting that she courted the AIP for a time since it seems undeniably to be so. I just wasn’t sure what that phrase, courting, meant specifically. But again, courting support is quite different from joining, remaining a member for 20 years, supporting with free-will offerings for 20 years, imbibing regularly from the wackiness on offering for 20 years, making an adviser for one’s campaign and, as little as a week prior to tossing under the bus saying that one could no more disown than one could disown one’s grandmother. Courting for a while is not the same as bellying up to the bar and imbibing deeply from the ideological spew and only pushing oneself away from the bar when remaining there becomes politically untenable. That was my intended point. I obviously failed miserably.

    Wright’s church was not dedicated to the proposition of the dissolution of the United States. The AIP is. Put this fits perfectly with conservative tradition.

  14. By Craig R. Harmon on Sep 3, 2008 | Reply

    No, Chris, but neither did Wright’s Church fit into Obama’s post-racial shtick, either, quite the opposite, but that fits perfectly into the radical leftist tradition, a tradition that Obama’s tried like hell to distance himself from.
