Text of Palin’s speech and my response…
September 4th, 2008 | by Dusty |You can read it here. I will highlight the horseshit.
And I accept the privilege of serving with a man who has come through much harder missions … and met far graver challenges … and knows how tough fights are won – the next president of the United States, John S. McCain. – POW POW POW POW POW…She mentions it alot..A LOT. It has nothing to do with being capable of running our nation.
Our family has the same ups and downs as any other … the same challenges and the same joys. Sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge. And children with special needs inspire a special love. – Special needs babies and children also need extra care and attention and you aren’t going to be able to provide that being on the campaign trail. But by all means..use your son to sell yourself Sarah.
I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a “community organizer,” except that you have actual responsibilities. I might add that in small towns, we don’t quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren’t listening. – People of her small town were in the throes of starting a recall election…so you didn’t know all of them, and you certainly didn’t serve them all well.
The right reason is to challenge the status quo, to serve the common good, and to leave this nation better than we found it. – Since your views on Global Warming are opposite of your main man, John McCain, I highly doubt you can leave this nation in better shape than you found it. By accepting that pork money for the Bridge..you didn’t challenge shit lady.
But we are expected to govern with integrity, good will, clear convictions, and … a servant’s heart. – Unless you don’t like someone..then you attempt to get them fired…and if the head of the Law Enforcement division balks at that idea..you shitcan him as well..hows that for integrity?
I came to office promising major ethics reform, to end the culture of self-dealing. And today, that ethics reform is the law. – TrooperGate again comes to mind..tsk tsk.
Senator McCain also promises to use the power of veto in defense of the public interest – and as a chief executive, I can assure you it works. – Unless of course its one of the lobbyists that currently are employed on his campaign or one of their company cohorts…then lets see how Johnny does regarding the cough…public interest.
I told the Congress “thanks, but no thanks,” for that Bridge to Nowhere. If our state wanted a bridge, we’d build it ourselves. – Oh give it a fucking rest lady…YOU KEPT THE MONEY!!! IT WAS PORK FOR CHRISTS SAKE NO MATTER WHAT YOU SPENT IT ON!
And when that deal was struck, we began a nearly forty billion dollar natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence. - Too bad it’s being built by the Canadians eh? So much for American jobs eh?
To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of world energy supplies … or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia … or that Venezuela might shut off its oil deliveries … we Americans need to produce more of our own oil and gas. And take it from a gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska: we’ve got lots of both. – Oh yeah..it will take a minimum of ten years to get that oil and gas into the delivery system and it will only lower prices by cents, not to mention its so small that it will be used up in less than a decade.
But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform – not even in the state senate. – John McCain has missed more votes in the Senate than any other senator in history that wasn’t ill..at least Obama was there the majority of the time.
The answer is to make government bigger … take more of your money … give you more orders from Washington … and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world. America needs more energy … our opponent is against producing it. – Bullshit, bullshit and more bullshit. Not even worth itemizing the bullshit in this one folks.
Al Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America … he’s worried that someone won’t read them their rights? Government is too big … he wants to grow it. – Yeah, thats right, you think civil rights are a joke, we know..and interestingly enough..people are innocent until evidence is presented against them at a trial. Those big bad Muslims are all guilty of something aren’t they?
The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes … raise payroll taxes … raise investment income taxes … raise the death tax … raise business taxes … and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars. My sister Heather and her husband have just built a service station that’s now opened for business – like millions of others who run small businesses. – The inheritance tax will be restored, not raised for Christs sake. He has no plans to hit small businesses, so unless your fucking sister is making millions off her gas station she has nothing to fear you freak. The rest is total bullshit, Obama isn’t raising shit on middle and lower class Americans.
How are you going to be better off if our opponent adds a massive tax burden to the American economy? Here’s how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. – Yeah, we know..by protecting the corporations tax loopholes. God forbid we actually get the 75% of corporations that paid little or no federal taxes to pay their fucking fair share.
And then there is the idealism of those leaders, like John McCain, who actually do great things. They’re the ones who are good for more than talk … the ones we have always been able to count on to serve and defend America. Senator McCain’s record of actual achievement and reform helps explain why so many special interests, lobbyists, and comfortable committee chairmen in Congress have fought the prospect of a McCain presidency – from the primary election of 2000 to this very day.- With over 100 lobbyists working on his campaign…who the fuck are you kidding woman?
There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you … in places where winning means survival and defeat means death … and that man is John McCain. In our day, politicians have readily shared much lesser tales of adversity than the nightmare world in which this man, and others equally brave, served and suffered for their country. It’s a long way from the fear and pain and squalor of a six-by-four cell in Hanoi to the Oval Office. – POW POW POW POW…nothing that prepares him to run our fucking country!
It’s the journey of an upright and honorable man – the kind of fellow whose name you will find on war memorials in small towns across this country, only he was among those who came home. To the most powerful office on earth, he would bring the compassion that comes from having once been powerless … the wisdom that comes even to the captives, by the grace of God … the special confidence of those who have seen evil, and seen how evil is overcome. A fellow prisoner of war, a man named Tom Moe of Lancaster, Ohio, recalls looking through a pin-hole in his cell door as Lieutenant Commander John McCain was led down the hallway, by the guards, day after day.- I will say it again..POW POW POW POW…nothing that prepares him to run our fucking country!
Christ almighty..what a load of hooey!

Where is the integrity that used to be what the GOP Stood for? All I see now is hypocrisy. Can any right-thinking republican actually support their own candidates? I don’t think so.
You have got to wonder about a party that abandons their own sitting President and Vice President for political reasons.
I may have to expand this into a longer post, but some where about 2001, the GOP was led astray, and it isn’t these people that are up for the replacements that will bring the GOP back to it’s true glory – if they ever had one.

Windspike, I was really upset with how the Rethuglican Spin Machine worked tonight..Rudy and all the rest of their speakers put liberal in front of media, and the outright lies about Obama were more than I could bear.
When the neocons and extreme religious right started running the show and proved they could win at any cost..the rest fell in lockstep.

Lisa, does your reichwing ass ever stay on topic? Fuck no.
Look, this is about the RNC and THEIR candidates…interesting how the only response you have is to go after the DNC candidate….that tells me that you have nothing to lob back in support of McCain’s fuckwitted, old but tortured ass eh?
Love it!!!

No counter huh Dusty except the old staying on topic statement? Which is what going after the RNC candidates. I’m not going to go after them too.
I know a few business owners,A guy with 5 employees a guy with 20 and a guy with 150. and guess who they are voting for?
You think Obama and Congress aren’t going to tax us to death? They are the party of higher taxes. He wants to follow the European mold you know where a cup of coffee costs 5.00 and not from Starbucks either.
Obama is going to cut taxes so much that we will have 2 work 4 jobs to cover the cost.
By Paul Watson on Sep 4, 2008 | Reply
Lisa,
Coffee at my local Starbucks is cheaper than that (£1.60 so about $3.50) and I live in central London. Once again, you prove that you don’t actually know much about Europe. Pointing this out is getting tiresome, so please actually check your facts before spouting off, would you?

Great speech by the woman that the Dems will get to hate more every day.
Hey windspike, who are you to talk about integrity and hypocrisy?
I mean were you for women having a role in politics before you were against them?
Looks like the “gal pal” you attempted to demean just hit a grand slam, threw a touchdown and delivered a knock out punch last nite.
Rasmussen has a poll out showing that 51% think the media is trying to hurt Palin with only 5% trying to help her. This should play in her favor as the Dems trot out hatemonger after hatemonger to tear her down for having the audacity to try and raise a family while doing what men have been doing since the beginning of politics. Run for office. Gasp, how dare she when she has a special needs baby???? OMG. No mention of Biden trying to raise two sons after their mother was killed while being a Senator.
Women should be looking at it this way. If McCain should check out before his two terms are up, they get an automatic president and the glass ceiling that Hillary was only able to crack gets smashed. If he serves his entire two terms they get a strong, experienced woman ready to take on anything the Dems have. This is clearly the best chance for America to show the world that anyone can be President regardless of sex. We saw plenty of the misogyny that runs rampant in the Democrat party during the primary. That was just the tip of the iceberg.
If fellow Dems, and media will treat Hillary, one of their own, the way they did then a woman who dares to be on the “other side” is bound to be in for getting blasted.
Look at her performance last night after the relentless attacks on everything from her looks to her motherhood to her experience.
The pressure on her to deliver the “speech of her life” didn’t deter her from doing exactly that.
She shows exactly the kind of leadership we need in this country. Cool, calm and to the point under extreme pressure.

Lisa, unlike your horseshit, its a valid statement and if you don’t want to stay on topic I will request Jet do something about it.
Then Support your worthless candidate Lisa, jesus christ, its not rocket science…say something in support of him so I can rip it to shreds.
Obama has said he will tax the rich and the corporations…are you either of those? Are your ‘friends’ either of those? If the answer is yes…then they will see an increase in their taxes…which is what I said in my post..do you read at an adult level?

Performance is right…great speechwriters and she delivers her lines well Manapp.
Leadership? laughable at this point. She was for the Bridge to Nowhere, then against it, then kept the money…nice!

No the real question is do and your ‘friends’ WORK for either of these? If they do they will see an indirect tax cut with lower wages or even a loss of jobs. You cannot take water out of just one side of a bucket. Decrease the profits of corporations with higher taxes and corporations will cut expenses. Since they have to pay uncle sam, they will cut jobs or just send them overseas.
Obama is hoping that Americans are too stupid to understand this.
I sure it will work on the “hate the rich” crowd.

Oh so now as long as it’s not me it’s okay all of a sudden.
Dusty coroporations provide jobs and the more tax they pay the more they can’t afford to pay their employees.
One of my customers has a friend who lives in Sweden and people had to close businesses because they can’t afford to pay employees because the taxes are too high. The only ones who can afford to live there comfortably are rich people and poor people.
Paul W-Okay forget the coffee how much percentage do you get taxed for Socialized healthcare and green taxes oh and gas.

So your saying a great speech is all she’s got Dusty? Sounds like the same thing Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton said about Obama, before they said he’s really able to lead.
She was for the bridge until she took office and examined the project more closely. Then she was consistantly against it and ultimately cancelled the project. She looked closer at the issue and changed her mind.
Like…..
Obama was against NAFTA until he looked closer and changed his mind.
Was against the FISA bill until he looked closer and changed his mind.
Was for public financing of campaigns until he looked closer and changed his mind.
Like Joe Biden thought Obama was not ready to be president until he looked closer and changed his mind.
Like Joe was for the stealing of other peoples written word in College then went on 60 minutes and changed his mind.
Like Joe was for the stealing of other peoples speeches in his first failed presidential run before the 60 min. confessional and request for absolution.
So if you Dems want to go down this road of mind changing. Bring it on.

Wouldn’t one of your liberal priciples be to fight sexism?
Even Clinton aides think the treatment of Sarah Palin has been sexist.
“What we’re dealing with now, there’s nothing subtle about it,” said Tannen. “We’re dealing with the assumption that child-rearing is the job of women and not men. Is it sexist? Yes.”
“There’s no way those questions would be asked of a male candidate,” said Howard Wolfson a former top strategist for Clinton’s presidential campaign.”

Do not cry sexism to me. As a man you have no standing on that issue. Hillary and her minion Ferraro screamed sexism every time they opened their pieholes.
Meg Whitman, a McCain adviser and the former chief of eBay, told Fox News that she thought the press was pursuing legitimate questions about Palin.
An inescapable question is whether the Republicans are playing the sex card the way they sometimes accuse black Democratic politicians of playing the race card. The answer is no more straightforward with gender than it is with black-white relations. Some measure of outrage at what Palin is facing is clearly genuine; some measure of political calculation is just as real. The two don’t have to be mutually exclusive. And an emotional charge like an accusation of sexism can be a powerful distraction in a campaign.

“Do not cry sexism to me. As a man you have no standing on that issue.”
As you are not a soldier, you have no standing on issues of war.
As you are not an oil company owner, you have no standing on issues pertaining to oil.
As you are not the CEO of a major company, you have no standing on corporate issues.
As you are not a cop arresting protestors, you have no standing on issues of arrests.
As you are not a gay man, you have no standing on gay issues.
As you are not a politician you have no standing on issues of politics.
All those positions are not only false, they are ridiculous.
The inescapable question is not whether the Republicans or Dems are playing race or gender cards. The questions is whether or not the public percieves them to be doing so. Politics is about perceptions and the ultimate prize of getting elected.
Politics are not about strict truths. Never has been.
It is like football. There are rules of not being able to hold the opponent while attempting a block yet there is holding that is not called on almost every play.
If you go to factcheck you will see that both sides play loose with the facts.
I am of the opinion that the selection of Sarah Palin was a brilliant move and last nights speech has shown it to be….so far.
The speech, IMO, was a success.

I watched part of Palin’s and Giuliani’s speeches last night. Pathetic. There wasn’t a single issue addressed; not a single logical coherent idea expressed. Nothing but soundbites and slogans and namecalling.
Even more pitiful was watching all those simple-minded drones in the audience cheering and clapping after every meaningless slogan.

Tom, true dat! Also….Manapp might be interested in this ABC writeup about Indy’s in Michigan:
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/michigan-indepe.html
Money quote:
Their reactions run the gamut, but the independents didn’t seem to care for her very much.
Ilene Beninson, 52, Berkley independent: “Her speech contained few statements about policy or the party platform. … I am not convinced that Palin’s experience as a mayor or governor in Alaska meet the qualifications to be vice president much less one stroke or heart attack away from being commander in chief.”
Mike Kosh, 38, West Bloomfield independent: “The way it looks to me, she’s the Republican vice presidential nominee for one reason: Because Hillary wasn’t selected.”
Bottom line:No substance, all spin..love it!

Specfically she said they would lower business taxes to create more jobs
They would pursue clean coal, oil and gas drilling in the US (including offshore)nuclear, wind and solar power to get us independent from foreign source and create American jobs.
They would not raise taxes on anyone because raising taxes on big business is the same as raising taxes on the middle class.
They would veto bill with pork and earmarks
They would finish the job in Iraq
There is more. Read the transcript this time with an open mind
Why do you not want to compare to Bidens speech. This is an apples to apples thing isn’t it? They are running against each other for the same office.
By Dusty on Sep 4, 2008 | Reply
Bush gave corporations a break on taxes and how many new jobs has that created? How is our economy better off with the corporate tax cut?
Clean coal is a myth.
Nuclear moratorium would have to be lifted…congress does that.
Veto pork and earmarks? Yeah right..
Finish the job in Iraq doesn’ tell us shit.
Your pov and her pov on raising taxes on corporations doesn’t make it a fact. sorry..
Wind and Solar power creating jobs is something Obama and Hillary championed..so everyone agrees on that.
By Dusty on Sep 4, 2008 | Reply
Also, the offshore drilling moratorium would have to be lifted and so far the Congress critters haven’t seen fit to do that..thank gawd. She and McSame have no power to change that.
