Exxon Mobil Corp. set a quarterly profit record for a U.S. company Thursday, surging past analyst estimates.

Exxon Mobil (XOM, Fortune 500), the leading U.S. oil company, said its third-quarter net profit was $14.83 billion, or $2.86 per share, up from $9.41 billion, or $1.70, a year earlier. That profit included $1.45 billion in special items.

The company’s prior record was $11.68 billion in the second quarter of 2008.

Can this PROFIT average be right? After taxes, expenses, operating costs like payroll and insurance, and all…

    $163 million / day
    $6.8 million / hour
    $113,000+ / minute

Leave these poor guys alone, Dusty.

    What “poor” guys Ditto?

Lisa, most business models allow for a general percentage of profit…anything above that is usually considered ripping off the public..especially if it’s a product that is needed to survive. Oil is one such product.

Yet you have the audacity to write that they are being over-taxed?

    Fucking amazing..simply fucking amazing.

How much money in taxes would we not get if they didn’t make a huge profit?
Don’t forget they pay record taxes on that profit too.
Why don’t you look up how much tax they paid and while you’re at why don’t look up Dutch Shell amd Venezuela Citgo’s profit.

Obama has what to do with this thread?

Why don’t you go read some freeper shit or where ever it is you get your bullshit and bravado from. ;)

Here ya go Lisa..on Exxxon and taxes, from an Economist:

Corporations don’t actually pay taxes, they collect them, in the form of higher prices for consumers, lower wages for employees and/or lower dividends for shareholders. In other words, people pay all taxes in their roles as consumers, workers and shareholders.

Don’t whine about their taxes ok? WE pay them.

I know that so who will it hurt when Obama raises their taxes?
OH so what’s all this crying about corporate welfare and tax breaks then.

  12. By Dusty on Oct 30, 2008 | Reply

Corporate welfare is one thing..and tax loopholes are a totally different animal.

And if you know so much why are you still bleating the freeper talking points? ;)

Thanks for my daily laugh and point at the freeper mindset Lisa..have a good day…you made mine!

    And almost $1900 / second.

If the oil companies are taxed anymore than they are… they’ll probably just throw their hands up in disgust and STOP selling oil!

With a PROFIT of $163,000,000 every day it’s like they could afford a comprehensive talking-MACHINE that supports and promotes their cause continuously. You know; fully funded think-tanks that sit around figure out the most persuasive way of using their radio and TV stations, newspapers and blogs to brainwash the masses, as their lobbyists sway our elected law makers with sweet contributions and free house re-modeling! Every effort could be designed to maintain their power and ability to continue the profit gravy-train. (And this is just ONE oil company!)

We have been trained to be docile cattle; Aren’t you guys glad gas is down to $2.79/gallon. Yea-hah!

(Dusty please turn up your sarcasm detector just one notch.)
