Glimpsing the Future

December 4th, 2008 | by Jet Netwal |

Found this sad bit of clairvoyance in my inbox today:

I think this cartoon is spot on. We have an epidemic of apathy and buck passing summed up in the recent trampling death at WalMart in New York. A corporation shrugging off any culpability for creating an environment through its marketing to consumers, driving up the crazed frenzy, and denying any responsibility for a safe work place for non employee workers. We have shoppers whose priorities are so screwed up they stomped a human being to death in their quest for “stuff” for gift giving to celebrate the birth of Christ.

The family is going to sue, but we all know they’d rather have Jdimytai Damour home for Christmas. All this cartoon does is underscore something we should be thinking about — whose priorities are being served here, and why.

The eye opener is that Bagley penned this cartoon in 2005.
