Bomb Plot Update

Well, looks like there may be something to this one:

Eleven people have been charged in connection with an alleged plot to blow up several transatlantic airliners.

Eight have been charged with conspiracy to murder and preparing acts of terrorism.

Two are accused of failing to disclose information and a 17-year-old faces a charge of possessing articles useful to a person preparing acts of terrorism.

One woman has been freed without charge and eleven people remain in custody, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

Deputy PM: Bush is c**p

Ok, so that’s not quite what he said. It’s what’s been reported and that’s good enough for me. ;)

Seriously, the deputy PM in a private meeting said that the “Bush adminitration has been crap on the Road Map“. He also said that it was only the promise of concerted action on the Roadmap that persuaded him to support the US in invading Iraq.

Now I don’t know about you, but if the British equivalent of the VP said that, don’t you think it would deserve rather more than this?

And the Presidential Candidate is…

I just thought you guys would be interested and could probably comment on the accuracy of this. The BBC have put up pop profiles of the leading contenders, with pro and con point each.
I figured seeing how we see your leading politicians and their chances might be interesting.

Political Compass: Where are you?

In a shameless rip off of the Gun Toting Liberal, I’m posting a link to the Political Compass website. I just think it would be fun to find out just how many of us really are crazed neocon freaks or hyperliberal moonbats. It could throw up some surprises.
So come on, take the test and put your scores in the comments.

For the record:
-5.63 Left/Right.

Just a joke

A man is stuck in a long line of cars when someone knocks on his window.
“Terrorists have kidnapped Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld. They’re demanding a billion dollars or they’ll all be doused in gas and set on fire. I’m going down the line collecting.”
“How much are people giving?” the man asks.
“About a gallon, on average.”

Nuclear Iran?

It seems Iran may be guilty of hyperbole in its recent statements about its plans for nuclear enrichment. No one denies that Iran has enriched uranium to 3.5%, a mere 86.5% below what is needed before it becomes bomb material. And plans have been announced to increase from 164 centrifuges to over 50, 000. That doesn’t mean that will give them the capability people think it does.

But centrifuge technology is complex and exacting. Thousands of spinning rotors have to be connected in precise cascades, capable of maintaining a vacuum and handling uranium hexafluoride, which is highly corrosive. ISIS (Institute for Science and International Security) quotes IAEA sources as saying that 30 per cent of Iran’s centrifuges crashed or broke down when its 164-machine cascade was shut down in response to international pressure in October 2003. Again quoting IAEA officials, ISIS says that although Iran may now have built 1345 centrifuges, more than half of them are not engineered well enough to operate in cascades.
Iran, it seems, is hyping its progress and western leaders and media are happy to play along.

Poll Analysis

Something I found while surfing:

Can The Democrats Retake The House? - Maybe

The gist of the analysis is that while it is still unlikely for Democrats to retake either House, it is now conceivable. And, of course, it’s possible that people will become even more disenchanted with the Administration. Of course, it’s also possible that they become disenchanted with the Democrats, or Karl Rove’s focus on politics rather than policy improves things.
